Whispering Valley, The

Brilliantly weird, read the review.

Well, this is gonna be the weirdest review i ever wrote. Just finished the game, and literally there are a lot more cons than pros. Why 4 stars then? I’ll explain. Let’s start with the cons.

-Repetitive gameplay, get the key, open the house, progress.
-Despite ultra setting, the graphics look really outdated.
-There isn’t much to do, very easy puzzles, if they are puzzles at all.
-Short.
-Abrupt ending, which feels somehow senseless.

Why the 4 stars then? Because of the atmosphere. The game is so spooky, a real masterpiece. The story kept me playing, and sometimes i almost sh.t myself even if i was just walking with a lantern in my hand. Advice. Do NOT play the game with volume turned off, or at noon with others around. I played at midnight with headphones on, and it was brilliantly scary. A weird game but definitely recommended.

Good but nowhere near good as the firs one.

I haven’t finished the game yet although I’ll do it maybe. Maybe. But after a few hours this is my opinion. Probably my expectations were too high because the first STASIS is one of my all-time favs but this game just failed on me. The game mechanics -playing different characters to solve puzzles- seems interesting at first but become tiresome after a while. The environment is simply too dark, maybe it gives some sort of spooky impression but i found it rather annoying. And the story… Well, it’s also subjective but couldn’t hook me in. I’m honestly disappointed.

Superb with some annoying mechanics.

A truly great game, amazing narrative and lovely, diverse planets to explore. Beautiful artwork too. The only negative side is, the game has sometimes annoying puzzle mechanics. Like the “ancient scripture” puzzle where you have to restart the whole process every time you make a mistake. However, still a gem, definitely recommended.

A complete waste of time

As far as aestethics concerned, the game delivers. In fact, it’s beautiful, attractive. But probably that’s all. Clunky movement, repetitive gameplay (pick the circuit breaker, put it here, pick it again, put it there…), bad game mechanics. Some items, objects are highlighted but sometimes you need something else what’s NOT so in the end you keep clicking on literally everything. Listen to the tapes again and again. The story is a mystery, and mostly remains a mystery even after finishing the game. If you are a hardcore Resident Evil fan, give this a try but don’t expect too much, really. The game is a failure in almost every possible way.

Could be amazing.

Pros and cons. After playing it for a few hours i gave up. Although a potential classic, the bad save system ruins it. The game has a really special atmosphere, spooky, you can really relate to it and feel truly lost. Loved it. But you can only save the game on certain points using certain objects and happened a couple of times that after about 30 minutes of progress i suddenly had to go and there was no object around to save so i lost half an hour. Otherwise i can only recommend it, not perfect but really special. Just make sure that you really have time to play.

Amazing visuals, so-so gameplay.

Long story short, it’s an amazing looking game. Nicely detailed environment, great effects. Very good physics, the floating really feels that you are in space. Interesting, engaging story. The timed sequences are very easy, so the progress isn’t difficult at all. However, there are some downsides.  Technically, with RTX on the game stutters, on truly high-end PC’s too like mine. The gameplay is so simple, “pick it up-bring it there”, can be monotonous, that’s why I felt bored at one point and almost put the game aside. The game is quite short. However, i still recommend it if you get it discounted.

Not really a game but superb.

Well, long story short if you expect a classic point and click game then look elsewhere. What you get is basically a novel, so called walking simulator with very limited interaction but absolutely great atmosphere and an awesome interpretation of Lem’s classic. I couldn’t stop playing, as the story slowly revealed itself it completely dragged me in. However, there are some issues, hence the 4.5 starts. Luckily they are all technical, could be fixed later on with updates. The graphics are really good (i expected some more though) but despite I’m playing on a high-end computer the game often stutters, suffers from sudden frame drops. What i also didn’t like is the autosave system. It creates only one save and constantly overwrites it, so you cannot choose which one to load and does not save too often so if you suddenly have to stop playing you might lose a significant amount of progress. But that’s all, still an awesome experience, i absolutely recommend it.

Almost classic, definitely a very good game

The beautiful artwork immediately caught my attention, and the game itself did not disappoint either. On the technical side, the character animation is proper, the gameplay is nice and fluid. The protagonist is okay not really exciting, her little robot friend is great, the dialogues between them are really funny sometimes. The story reveals itself step by step and was exciting enough to keep,my attention right till the finish despite it was somehow predictable every now and then. Probably this is my only complaint and this makes me think that i won´t play this game again like i replayed the some of the Broken Sword games. About the difficuty… You won´t need the implemented walkthrough, just read and listen ALWAYS carefully. Even a small word in a sentence can help if the progress seems very difficult, most of the time the solution is fairly simple, and you won´t get frustrated. Like the safe puzzle, first seemed confusing but when i solved it i smiled how easy it was. Generally, the progress seems a lot more difficult than it really is, so never give up. All in all, an awesome game with eye-catching artwork, good puzzles and good story.

Fun but way too easy

I loved this game. The story, characters, voice acting. Why is it 4 stars then? Because of the lack of challenge. I ran through the game without any serious break or so, everything was too obvious. Here i have to disagree with the official review, the musical door puzzle was also easy, took me 2 minutes to figure out how to solve it. Really good game but definitely the easiest i´ve played in recent years, and one of the easiest i ever played.

Well… I finished it, enjoyed it, although the game has several flaws. First of all, the whole story. As I played, I had a feeling that I´ve seen/heard this already, far from any original idea. Puzzles… The whole game is just too easy, and this is a serious problem, as it is pretty short too. You cannot skip dialogues, I didn´t like the PDA´s although some contains useful information, reading them felt like a waste of time, an obstacle in my way of exploration. Smile And some more, but these were the main problems for me. Why is it worthy to play it then? Because it has a great atmosphere, really. Lots of exploration, so despite all of it´s flaws, i recommend to everyone to give it a try.
