Candlelight Lament: A Lovecraftian Adventure Breakthrough

Lovecraftian point-and-click adventure Candlelight Lament has made a significant splash at the Tokyo Game Show 2023 with the debut of its free demo. The indie developer behind the game, Lawsquare133, partnered with publisher Gamera Games to showcase their first-ever game at the Gamera Games booth.

Candlelight Lament is an adventure puzzle game deeply rooted in the Cthulhu Mythos. Players step into the shoes of Ed, a respected elderly professor who defies the city's night-time curfews to visit friends and search for his missing granddaughter. As the investigation unravels, a terrifying truth behind recent large-scale disappearances emerges. The game is available on Steam and you can watch the trailer here:

The game's unique 2D hand-drawn monochrome art style is visually pleasing while perfectly capturing the cosmic horror and sense of dread. Every visual element in the game conveys the emotions and messages that the developer wants to relay to the player. The game's narrative branches out, allowing the player to explore different outcomes. Key features include black and white hand-painted art set in the 70s of a parallel universe, a Keeper that accompanies the player throughout the game, and the ability to use the player character's "Awake" to uncover hidden secrets.

With its hauntingly beautiful aesthetic and gripping narrative, Candlelight Lament is sure to intrigue fans of the Lovecraftian horror genre and point-and-click adventure games.
