A Lively Haunt: The Ghostly Adventure Awaits
In a thrilling turn of events, game developer Kevin McConnell has announced the imminent release of a spine-chilling, two-player adventure game titled A Lively Haunt. The game is set to launch on September 7, 2023, and will be available on Steam for $9.99 USD.
A Lively Haunt begins with two travellers stranded on a roadside due to a vehicle breakdown. The duo soon find themselves under attack by mysterious spectral forces. Seeking refuge in a nearby estate, they quickly realize that their situation is far from improved. The travellers begin to suspect a dark link between the historic property and the relentless supernatural entities pursuing them.
McConnell has crafted A Lively Haunt to mirror the look, sound, and gameplay of classic adventure games from the mid to late 1980s, particularly those made by Sierra On-Line using their AGI (Adventure Game Interpreter) engine. However, the game was actually developed using GameMaker Studio 2. One of the most interesting features is the text parser interface, which enhances the nostalgic feel of the game. Players type commands like "open door" or "take crowbar" to solve puzzles, rather than the more modern point-and-click style. The game, which took about four years to develop, can be played single-player or co-op, although two separate keyboards are required for the latter.
