Nanobots, Dirty Split headline busy week for indies

Promising new Underground adventure releases are often few and far between, but not this week, as both Nanobots and Dirty Split are now available for free download.

Nanobots is the latest game from Erin "The Ivy" Robinson, creator of the highly-acclaimed Spooks. A traditional point-and-click AGS title like its predecessor, Nanobots tells the story of a group of nanobots created in an experiment by Groovy Greg. Designed to work together as a team, Hotbot, Brainbot, Tallbot, Audbot, Strongbot, and Chembot seem destined to achieve nothing more than a failing grade. But in order to avoid becoming scrap metal, players will need to switch between all six bots to help them "make use of their surroundings, fashion an escape plan, and avoid coming face-to-fist with Professor Killfun".

The debut title by Dreamagination is Dirty Split, a 1960s-era mystery that's fully voiced, which is a rarity among freeware adventures. Released last month in German but only recently in English, the Wintermute-based Dirty Split casts players in the role of private eye Alan Baxter, who begins investigating a seemingly straightforward murder case. The problem is, the suspect is innocent, and the real mystery a much deeper one than first appears. Capturing the distinctive look and style of the '60s, the game takes players to a variety of locations, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York.

Both the 10 MB Nanobots and much larger 183 MB Dirty Split can be downloaded from their respective websites.
