PlayStation 3 gamers join the Rat Race

It should come as no surprise to hear news of an episodic comedy adventure series being launched this winter. What is a surprise is that the news isn't about a canine shamus and hyperkinetic rabbity thing this time, but Rat Race, a brand new series from Super-Ego Games. And what's most surprising of all is that Rat Race will be exclusive to Sony's PlayStation 3, and distributed through the PlayStation Network.

On the PlayStation blog, Super-Ego president Greg Easley offered some early information about the upcoming project. With more than a passing resemblance to The Office (but not based on the popular television show), Rat Race is set in "an extremely dysfunctional" company called BigCo, whose staff members "make the Enron guys look like Nobel Prize laureates." As the player, you'll simply try to make it through your day, but "as the clock ticks toward quitting time, you’ll encounter a rogues gallery including: Joy Chung, an impossible, and impossibly hot, PR exec; Chip Bratsby III, a pompous jerk whose career focus is getting you fired; and Dr. Ron Durfman, a research scientist who may or may not be intimate with his lab monkey."

Very little else is known about Rat Race at the moment, but according to Easley, the game is more than an interactive sitcom, including the need to "sneak, sprint, solve puzzles, eavesdrop, steal, and even 'neutralize' that lab monkey." Adding to the game's comedic promise, Rat Race will be written and voiced by professionals with credits including Saturday Night Live, South Park and Sex in the City, among others.
