Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Sunday 24 August 2014
This is Laura Harris in the 1st-person 3D game with the shortest name ever: D (1995). She’s wandering around in a spooky dark mansion, trying to find out why her father suddenly turned into a killing monster. According to Moby Games it’s a “survival horror game”, which is weird because you can’t die although there are lots of scares. The player has only two hours to finish the game (no option to save!) and at first I didn’t find it easy to “survive” that time limit.
The puzzles are not hard, the atmosphere is very dark and threatening, but the yucky story was too much to stomach for me.

Where did you find such a bright screenshot?!?
That game is all gloomy (as far as I can remember), hardly anything can be seen in it.

Even Me.

1. Why is it called “D”?
2. What is wrong with her eye? Is that a very poor attempt at winking or some horrific form of eye disease?
3. If this is 1st person why am I seeing myself?
I never played it, but I remember seeing the intriguing cover in the store and almost buying because of it (at least I think it’s the same game)

Yeah, extremely dark, but there are a few cut scenes with bright colors.
Does “as far as I can remember” mean you’ve played it?

Ah, that would be telling… and the game wants to tell you itself.
Any persons come to mind with a name starting with a D?

I think she’s trying very hard to express some kind of emotion.
3. If this is 1st person why am I seeing myself?
You have a name, a face, and a history, so you appear in cut scenes.
Wilco, yes that’s the cover.

Nah, I just reviewed it (kinda) .

Given the genre, I’d guess Dante. Am I right?
You can tell me, the chance I’ll ever play this is more or less zero.
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
Far too lofty for this revolting story. Here’s a hint. Did you see D’s thread 3883?

My guess is Devil.
Dear Daddy is a devil, but that’s not what D stands for.

When I saw both Tim’s and Sefir’s answers I thought they were far better than my initial thought so didn’t answer. Since they’re wrong I’ll embarrass myself and suggest
Dracula
Life is what it is.
Correct!
You people hate hints, don’t you…
