The Big Adventure Gamers “VS - There Can Be Only One” Tournament
Poll: Would you like to have a group stage before direct knock-out duels? Total Votes: 32 |
|
---|---|
Group stage before the direct elimination duels | 22 |
Immediately start with the knock-out rounds (128 - 64 - 32...) | 10 |
Wouldn’t it be better to wait until all the voters have played the games on the list, even if it takes a year? Otherwise I don’t see anyone learning anything new from the results.
I’d need more like 5 years Zifnab! - also there’s such a variety of games there’s a few games that don’t appeal & then there’s the problem of getting hold of some of those that do appeal!
I don’t think it matters if nothing new is learnt from the results but they hopefully will be interesting & it’s going to be a lot of fun!
At the rate I’m going, I’d never make it.
Also, it doesn’t really matter if nothing new is learnt, it’s the journey that’s the most fun. And I’m quite looking forward to “odd pairings” in the knock-out stages and what kinds of discussion they’d generate.
Can I just say that the quickest way to kill this tournament will be to over-complicate it. Let people vote how they will and save Bogi an extra headache! It should be fun above all and if people try and treat it like Empirical research (NOT suggesting anyone here is doing that) which will elicit a final answer, rather than a fun knock out tournament then things could go sour.
In summary - let’s have fun and thanks Bogi for doing this!
^ This.
Does somebody know a way to have ASCII table with consistent boundaries that won’t mess up when values of different sizes are filled?
I would use it in the first post of each group’s thread and update it regularly.
Test one two three.. 7
This sentence has an 5
equal amount of char 3
acters as the one ^^ 2
That’s using the [ code ] tags.
Expect some quirks for words that represent actual code (like suddenly being in a different colour).

Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
Thanks TimovieMan
The live draw will be held tomorrow (Wednesday 17) starting at 10 P.M. (GMT/UTC) on Adventure Gamers discussion boards (on this topic )
Livestream!! We want livestream!!

The best I can (and will ) do is to edit the special post for the draw 134 times in a row.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find 134 Kinder egg yolks so I promise I’ll use real random numbers generator and will edit the post a few seconds later. I know I could do it in one click for the whole draw, but trust me this is far more interesting at least for me
So you will all know which game is being placed in which group a mere seconds after me.
The page views on this thread are going to go through the roof with everyone constantly refreshing to see the draw…

Wooh…. That would be all folks, I still have to look at the groups, it seems there are really hard ones.
Now we need to start opening threads for each group.
Congratulations Bogi for the hard work! There are indeed many interesting battles. Some of them even from the same series!! (Myst, Portal)

probably should have them in a sub-section or something.. Flooding the adventure forum with 16 threads doesnt seem like a great idea.

I thought to create threads for the first half of the groups (A-H).
@TimovieMan I’ll start creating them as soon as we know definitely where to put them. In Adventure section or somewhere else?
edit:
Ok, I’ll start creating them and later thay could easily be moved if there’s a more appropriate place.
Looking good, Bogi! In the first post for each group thread, underneath the scoreboard, maybe you should add some brief instructions, like this:
Vote for up to five games you’d like to see advance to the next round.
First choice (7 points)
Second choice (5 points)
Third choice (3 points)
Fourth choice (2 points)
Fifth choice (1 point)
Voting for this group will end on X Day at Y time. The four games with the most points will advance.
Not sure what this tournament is all about? See the Overview thread here. Join in and have fun!
Feel free to reword this however you want.
I’ll do that pronto, thanks Caliburn.
Maybe it’s a dumb question and I haven’t read correctly, but can I only cast my vote for one game, in case I haven’t played the rest?
Bogi can confirm, but I think Bogi’s conclusion was yes. I’ll update my mock instructions with this.
