Introduction =============================================================================== Made in 1989, Future Wars is Delphine Software International's first adventure game. The story involves a nameless hero's quest to defeat the Crughons, aliens from the 44th century that are planning on destroying the defense systems on Earth. Despite some precise pixel hunting and difficult arcade sequences, this is a really good adventure with some difficult puzzles and a well written plot. Delphine also made two later adventure games: Operation Stealth and Cruise for a Corpse, but Future Wars is by far the best game that they made. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== PRESENT ------- The game starts on scaffolding high up on a skyscraper. Take the empty bucket. Examine the scaffolding and operate the red button. Operate the window that the boss talked from and then walk through it to enter the waiting room. Walk to the right side of the carpet and operate it to discover a key. Take the plastic bag from the waste-paper basket. Enter the bathroom. Operate the cupboard and take the insecticide. Operate the W.C. door and take the red little flag on the floor. Use the empty bucket on the sink to fill it with water. Return to the waiting room and use the full bucket on the top door. Operate the right door to enter the office. Use the key on the second cupboard on the bottom row to find a typewriter. Examine the typewriter to see the code 40315. Walk to the desk at the right side of the room and operate the top drawer of the desk. Take the sheaf of paper. Examine the map on the wall to view a large version of the map. On the enlarged version, use the little flag on the little hole between the two red flags on the map to open a secret passage. Enter the passage to arrive in a room where the ceiling starts to lower. Examine the numbered keypad at the right side of the door and then quickly enter the code 40315 on the keypad. A good way to do this is to press F5 before entering each number as this quickly shows the operate command without having to display the menu. The ceiling will raise again as soon as the correct code has been entered. Walk through the doorway to enter the control room. Use the sheaf of paper on the opening of the machine. Operate the green button on the machine to activate the time machine. Operate the red button on the machine and take the documents from the floor. Walk into the light to be sent back in time. THE YEAR 1304 ------------- After arriving on the marsh, walk carefully west across the green sections to reach the swarm of mosquitoes. Use the insecticide on the mosquitoes and then continue west to the tree at the left side of the area. Examine the glint of light at the base of the tree to take the pendant. Continue west to the next area to see the lake. Walk to the tree at the left side of the area and examine the foot of the tree to find a rope. Use the rope on the tree branch and wait for the stranger to arrive. After climbing down from the tree, walk over to the bushes and take the slacks and the tunic. Walk west to the area with the inn. Walk to the north-west corner of the area to enter a clearing with a tree. Operate the tree and a coin will fall out of the monk's habit on the branch. Examine the ground to take the silver coin. Walk east and operate the door to enter the inn. Use the silver coin on the innkeeper and then wait for the conversation to end. Exit the inn. Use the pendant on the guard on the bridge to meet Torin. Take the lance from the sleeping guard outside the castle. Walk north-west to the clearing and use the lance on the monk's habit to wear it. Walk east twice and use the plastic bag on the lake. Quickly walk west and then south. Use the full bag on the wolf. Operate the door to enter the monastery. To avoid being caught by the monks, walk in the same direction as them and keep at the edge of the room. Operate the right door and enter the room to talk to the father superior, who asks for a cup of Chikapok. Exit the room and operate the left door. Enter the room and take the cup. Exit the room and operate the top door. Enter the room. Use the cup on the right barrel on the middle shelf. Exit the room. Operate the right door and enter the room to give the full cup to the father superior. Examine the father superior to find a control device. Use the control device on the piece of furniture under the books to take the magnetic card. Exit the room. Operate the top door and enter the room. Use the control device on the barrel at the top of the ladder. Enter the passage to arrive in the control room. Take the gas capsule at the bottom-left corner of the glass case. Use the magnetic card on the console to travel to the future. THE YEAR 4315 ------------- Examine the rubble at the bottom-right corner of the area to find an empty blowtorch. Walk east to the next area. Walk along the bottom of the screen to the middle of the area and examine the box in the left pile of rubble to take the fuses. Examine the right pile of rubble to find a manhole cover. Operate the manhole cover to enter the sewer. Walk east twice and then use the empty blowtorch on the tap on the wall to fill it. Keep following the path through the sewer to arrive in an area with a mutated creature. Wait until the hero walks near to the creature before using the filled blowtorch on it. The hero climbs up the ladder and arrives outside a train station. Use the lance on the videocamera above the door to enter the station. Walk to the left side of the room and examine the coin collector on the newspaper machine to find a coin. Use the coin on the money slot of the newspaper machine and nothing will happen. Examine the coin collector to find the coin and use it on the money slot again. This time, a newspaper will drop out. Wait for the train to arrive and then walk onto it to be taken to a different station. Walk downstairs to the bathroom and use the fuses on the fuses in the fuse box. Go upstairs to see that the ticket inspector is now distracted by the TV. Walk between the two arrows. Wait for the hostess behind the desk to look away and then quickly walk onto the steps to ride up to the plane. The Crughons board the plane and take the hero to a cell. Use the key on the air duct. Use the gas capsule on the air duct and then quickly use the newspaper on the air duct to open the door. Walk through the doorway to the control room. Wait for the TV screen to appear and after a cutscene the hero will arrive in the Cretaceous. CRETACEOUS ---------- Walk down the path to Lo'ann to get the airgun. Walk west and keep shooting at the Crughons marked with the red boxes until the leader appears on his flying disc. Shoot him and then shoot the remaining Crughons. After the battle, examine Lo'ann three times to find a pill and the pendant. Use the pendant on Lo'ann to send her back to 4315. Examine the Crughon outside the shuttle to find a magnetic card. Enter the shuttle. Use the magnetic card on the card reader at the right side of the door. Operate the case and take the garment. Use the garment on the videocamera. Walk onto the platform below the case to lie down. Operate the case to travel to the Crughon station. After arriving on the station, quickly use the pill on the hero to become invisible and then walk to the right side of the doorway to avoid the two Crughon guards. Go through the doorway to exit the ship and walk behind the box at the bottom-left corner of the room. Operate the box to enter the storage room. Walk through the doorway to enter the maze. East. Item List =============================================================================== AIRGUN Found in the Cretaceous by walking down the path to Lo'ann. It is used to shoot the Curughons in the area with their shuttle. BAG FULL Found in the year 1304 by using the plastic bag on the lake. It is used on the wolf one screen south from the inn. COIN Found in the year 4315 by examining the coin collector on the newspaper machine in the train station. It is used on the money slot of the newspaper machine. It is taken back from the coin collector and is used again on the money slot to get the newspaper. CONTROL DEVICE Found in the year 1304 by examining the father superior in the east room of the monastery after he has been given the cup filled. It is used on the piece of furniture under the books in the east room of the monastery to get the magnetic card. It is used on the barrel at the top of the ladder in the north room of the monastery. CUP Found in the year 1304 in the west room of the monastery. It is used on the right barrel on the middle shelf in the north room of the monastery to make the cup filled. CUP FILLED Found in the year 1304 by using the cup on the right barrel on the middle shelf in the north room of the monastery. It is given to the father superior in the east room of the monastery. DOCUMENTS After the sheaf of paper has been used in the opening of the machine in the skyscraper control room, the documents are found by pressing the red button on the machine. They are not used. EMPTY BLOWTORCH Found in the year 4315 by examining the rubble in the west section of the ruined city. It is used on the tap in the sewer under the ruined city. FILLED BLOWTORCH Found in the year 4315 by using the empty blowtorch on the tap in the sewer under the ruined city. It is used on the mutated creature in the sewer. EMPTY BUCKET Found on the scaffolding outside the skyscraper. It is used on the sink in the skyscraper bathroom to get the full bucket. FULL BUCKET Found by using the empty bucket on the sink in the skyscraper bathroom. It is used on the top door in the skyscraper waiting room. FUSES Found in the year 4315 by examining the left pile of rubble in the east section of the ruined city. They are used on the fuses of the fuse box in the train station bathroom. GARMENT Found in the Cretaceous by operating the case in the Crughon shuttle. It is used on the videocamera in the shuttle. GAS CAPSULE Found in the year 1304 by examining the gas capsule at the bottom of the glass case in the monastery control room. After the key has been used on the air duct of the Crughon's cell in the year 4315, the gas capsule is used on the air duct. INSECTICIDE Found in the cupboard in the skyscraper bathroom. It is used on the swarm of mosquitoes above the marsh in the year 1304. KEY Found under the right side of the carpet in the skyscraper waiting room. It is used to unlock the second cupboard on the bottom row in the skyscraper office. It is used on the air duct in the Crughon's cell in the year 4315. LANCE Found in the year 1304 near the guard outside the castle after the hero has entered the castle. It is used on the monk's habit in the tree. It is used on the videocamera above the door of the train station in the year 4315. LITTLE FLAG Found on the floor of the W.C. in the skyscraper bathroom. It is used on the little hole in the map in the skyscraper office. MAGNETIC CARD Found in the year 1304 by using the control device on the piece of furniture under the books in the east room of the monastery. It is used on the console in the monastery control room. MAGNETIC CARD Found by examining the Crughon outside the shuttle in the Cretaceous. It is used on the card reader in the shuttle. It is used on the console in the computer room of the Crughon station. NEWSPAPER Found in the year 4315 by using the coin on the money slot of the newspaper machine for the second time. After the key and the gas capsule have been used on the air duct of the Crughon's cell in the year 4315, the newspaper is used on the air duct. PENDANT Found in the year 1304 by examining the glint of light at the left side of the marsh. It is shown to the guard at the entrance to the castle. It is found by examining Lo'ann for the third time after the battle against the Crughons in the Cretaceous. It is used on Lo'ann. PILL Found by examining Lo'ann for the second time after the battle against the Crughons in the Cretaceous. It is used on the hero at the Crughon station. PLASTIC BAG Found in the waste-paper basket in the skyscraper waiting room. It is used on the lake in the year 1304 to make the bag full. ROPE Found in the year 1304 by examining the foot of the left tree near the lake. It is used on the branch of the left tree. SHEAF OF PAPER Found in the top drawer in the skyscraper office. It is used on the opening of the machine in the control room of the skyscraper. SILVER COIN In the year 1304, after operating the tree with the monk's habit in it one screen west from the inn, the silver coin is found by examining the ground near the tree. It is given to the innkeeper. SLACKS Found in the year 1304 after climbing the left tree near the lake. They are worn automatically after the tunic has been taken. TUNIC Found in the year 1304 after climbing the left tree near the lake.
