Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit out on Steam and GOG

Anyone who’s ever had to dissolve an estate can attest to how taxing of a process it is. Milda, protagonist of Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit, is doing just that. Unfortunately, Milda doesn't get the chance to simply box everything up and have a yard sale. After discovering old documents and clues dating back to the 15th century she finds herself thrust into a dangerous search for a long-lost mysterious relic.

Milda, a woman living in Chicago, is called to Lithuania to help sell her late grandfather’s home. Upon arriving at his house, she finds it has been broken into. She receives an ominous call shortly thereafter, and soon becomes tangled in “a rich web of enigmatic danger.” With the help of her friends Dana and Joris, Milda works to decrypt weird documents and clues left behind by her grandfather, leading her to investigate a lost relic, Lithuania’s most legendary royal and the clandestine machinations of the KGB during the Soviet era.

Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit is inspired by point-and-click adventure classics including Broken Sword, Still Life, and Syberia. It features a world that reacts to your decisions, with players able to customize Milda’s fashion to help solve puzzles (or “just for fun!”) and make game changing choices.

The game’s production has been headed by the art director of the highly acclaimed fan-adventure Broken Sword 2.5. Gorgeous, highly expressive cartoon-style polygonal characters and beautiful hand painted backgrounds establish “a thrilling trip across beautifully rendered locations in Eastern Europe imbued with romanticism and conspiratorial intrigue.” The game also features some high profile voice talent from productions including Return to Monkey Island, The Wolf Among Us, and Day of the Tentacle, as well as music written by Danial Pharos (A New Beginning, Memoria, Blackguards.)

Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit has been praised by industry veteran Charles Cecil of Broken Sword fame, who states, “With beautiful graphics and a fascinating story, Crowns and Pawns is looking like it will be an excellent point and click adventure.”

The game is available as of today for Windows, Mac, and Linux via Steam and GOG.
