Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Monday 19 September
Sisyphus Reborn
While this game was first released a couple of years ago, it has recently popped up on Steam for free and has garnered some favourable reviews.
It’s quite difficult to describe without using terrible words like “experience”, “concept” or “arty-farty” and for some it will fall into the “not really a game” category. However, most people that have played it seem to have enjoyed it, or at least found it thought provoking and interesting in a way that the creators intended.
The strap line – “A short atmospheric adventure game about finding meaning in a meaningless world.” Probably sets the scene well enough on its own. It is inspired by a little of Albert Camus’ thinking (or Albert Camel as an old friend of mine used to call him) but I won’t say a lot more here other than that you don’t need to have read any French philosopher’s work to get something out of this game.
One of the things I like about the game is although it is (in some ways) puzzle and story lite, it makes you think about something quite profound and you may be surprised to find you already have quite a strong viewpoint on it, or simply start to consider how things might be…
In a perhaps wryly ironic move, the steam version comes complete with achievements!
3.5 time winner of the “Really Annoying Caption Contest Saboteur” Award!
nomadsoul recomended this game in another thread so I played it and it was… something. Although is incredible short, it has that je ne sais quoi that makes it a little gem.
