Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Tuesday, 22 December
OK, today, we have the funniest fight ever in an adventure game. Forget Insult swordfighting, the brawl in Largo Winch: Empire Under Threat is one to remember. Now, the authors opted for a turn-based fight, to please the adventure gamers and not action lovers, and that’s all fine. But it also produced a most ridiculous combat interruption: after your partner shoots down a helicopter with a revolver (?!), you two are confronted with 3 bad guys. Every men (in your, and opponent’s team) makes his turn. Now, beside the kick and punch, your partner also has the “restrain” option to grab the enemy, and you two make turns one after another. Now, that would be fine for a turn-based strategy or RPG game, but you can imagine how absurd is for an adventure game to see your partner that grasps the bad guy while you deal punches to him, while the other two bad guys stand still and not even look in that direction! One of the baddies also has a giant sledge hammer, and he knocks you right on the forehead, but you bravely manage to stand on your feet. Truly, the fight worthy of Stingray or Star Trek’s.
On a side note, Largo Winch is a heavily underrated game, in the same league as Broken Sword 3. It’s full of “cinematic-feel” to it, and perhaps one of the better “TV show-to game” conversions.
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale

The original comic is also great. And by the same author Thorgal is a must read (it’s probably the comic serie I read the most as a kid),
Didn’t know they had made a game, will have to try it one day
Those two bad guys are just scrupulously following the rules. It’s admirable that they won’t cheat. Just curious—who wins the fight? (Or should I play the game to find out???)
BTW—the Stingray link is an eye-opener. Do you think they use baby oil on their upper bodies when they know they’ll have to fight?
