Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Tuesday 23 July 2013
Some rare games are otherwise good games that unfortunately fail due to a lack of marketing and consequently suffer a limited distribution. This isn’t one of them. Grackon’s Curse (1995) is simply a bad game and deserves every bit of its obscurity. It’s a collector’s item that is more a mark of shame than a trophy.
Navigating the world in this first person game is like wading through molasses and not just because of movement animation, but because you don’t get your cursor back until a 3 second or so annoying sound effect plays every step you take. You can feel yourself aging as you play.
Its graphics are monotonous, both in palette and in design. The 3D animation in the finale is so drawn out and terrible that you can’t even find anything comical in it, which should be easy to achieve as Grackon basically looks like a big kooky metal bird. I think he’s supposed to be a dragon, but that requires more imagination than I am willing to put into that train wreck of a design.
I guess if I have to come up with something positive to say, it would be that the puzzles didn’t suck as bad as everything else. Maybe there is someone out there who will like this game, but I doubt it. Don’t waste your money or time on this one.

Everybody wants to be Cary Grant.
Even Me.

I went and took a screenshot of the evil Grackon. Cower in fear before Big Bird’s robotic cousin…

The Giant Crow from the old Donkey Cong Country series (platform game, SNES) has returned!!
