Demo heralds dream-like 3D first-person adventure Cylne

Fans of surreal first-person exploration games not only have something new to look forward to, but something to play in the meantime as a playable demo has been released to herald the upcoming indie adventure Cylne.

Cylne drops players into a series of "poetic worlds" filled with "environmental enigmas, platforming and crystalline guitars." There is no distinct storyline to uncover, as the game is described as being "closer to a poem than a novel" with "minimalist first-person gameplay based on exploration and movement." At the end of this dream-like journey, however, players must make a choice that reflects any meaning they've contructed (or not) about the world in their travels.

As seen in the game's early screenshots and gameplay video, Cylne is a free-roaming, 3D adventure that takes players through worlds that are "something between 19th century romanticism and 20th century abstract art, with ancient architectures and wide stripped landscapes." According to the developer, you won't meet any other characters, but you "may encounter strange life forms" along the way.

There's no need to rely on screenshots, however, as you can already check out a playable alpha demo of Cylne. Although still a work in progress, the demo takes place early in the full game to give players a good understanding of what to expect. The 300-plus MB demo can be downloaded from Indie DB.

Cylne is currently slated to be released sometime in the second quarter of 2014 for PC. For more details, keep an eye on the game's official website.
