Sorry about the eye-averting title - I tried to make it as ugly as possible because Retro Friday is all about the Ugly! But as we’ll discover, the Ugly can also be Good (as well as Bad).

There’s a lot of good in Spaceship Warlock (1991), one of the first CD-ROM adventures and possibly the first to call itself an “interactive movie” (it isn’t). It’s a fairly goofy but fun 1st person adventure in the spirit of B-movie sci-fi which has you, an oppressed “Terrie” (human), start out exploring a run-down alien city. You’re broke, but you find a way off the planet and obtain passage on a ship which is attacked by the infamous Spaceship Warlock. Led by Captain Hammer, you join the crew and get to overthrow the evil Krell empire.

The game came on a CD in a bundle with a bunch of other games so I have no idea how to get it today. I do know that I found it a fairly engaging game for 1991 standards, and an interesting entry in AG history.

The graphic quality of the spaceship is pretty good for a ‘91 retro game though…..

It isn’t bad, is it?

The rest is very much Windows 3.1 but not too unpleasant on the eyes.

I’m not saying that screenshot looks ugly, but I’d like to point out that I’m *very* happy we’ve moved beyond dithering… Smile

Edit: the second screenshot doesn’t have any dithering issues. Yay!

Great post! I was wondering what it was going to be.  Smile

This is an excellent start, Oscar, and I really like your retro logo.  Have fun with it!

I love the logo too Oscar. I looked up the game in a few sources & there are not many screenshots to be had but the ones there are look pretty good for a game from that time!  Thumbs Up

I forgot to add that I can’t see any way that I would ever get to play the game however interesting the concept but enjoy a glimpse into the history of games.
