Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Tuesday, 15 September
“In 20/20 hindsight, I would have omitted the RPG (role-playing) aspects and would have stuck with more traditional adventure game elements. I would have thought more in terms of physical puzzles that could be done better in 3D than in 2D, but, still, I wouldn’t have changed the game so dramatically just because I was switching from 2D to 3D.”
How about naked buns, Roberta?! Just kidding - no need to change anything, King’s Quest 8 is a fun game! Yes, it’s a King’s Quest! Get over it! Ron Gilbert won’t make a real Monkey Island 3, and Roberta Williams won’t make a real King’s Quest 8! After all, it’s the game I bought my 3dfx Voodoo for, for Pete’s sake!
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
It has some nice ideas for puzzles, the puzzles are way better than most action/adventures but I wouldn’t say it’s fun, mostly because the combat and controls are atrocious
AAARRGH!!! MY EYES!!!
IT’S KQ8!!!
KILL IT!!! KILL IT!!!!
LOL, Sefir!
I was indignant when KQ8 turned out to be an action adventure, but it was still a king’s quest game, so I just had to play it. Couldn’t finish it, the action became too hard after a while. Must have completed 3 or 4 levels before I gave up. I remember an endless series of skeletons which kept popping up and I found shooting them a joyless, even depressing task.
See you around, wolf. Nerissa
How about naked buns,
Damn, if ‘berta had a change of career to a ..Pornstar, she would have had been even richer than now!

Roberta?!

Uh, and thanks Diego for the link! (reminding me to read one* of those masterpieces of an interview, again!
thus; I am changing my Sig, for that above.
I have to admit that, as terrible a game as it is, I do have a sneaking admiration for King’s Quest 8. When I first got my hands on it I was horrified (like everyone else really) but I eventually went on to complete it and even to re-play it.
So many bad things about it but there was just something that I liked (although I honestly don’t know if I could name even one thing that is good about the game!). I think it might have been because it just feels like an appalling fan-fic version of the King’s Quest universe that is so terrible you just have to keep going to see what they’re going to do next!

I have played KQ8 - but I must have blocked it out, because I cannot remember a single thing about the game, except of course that I didn’t like it .. at all!
You have to play the game, to find out why you are playing the game! - eXistenZ
