Machinarium
Discworld Noir
Gabriel Knight 3
Grim Fandango
Well, this was an easy one
M1: Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail
M2: No Vote
M3: Gabriel Knight 3: BotS, BotD
M4: Grim Fandango
1. Machinarium
2. Discworld Noir (such a shame…I really like the first Simon)
3. No vote. I really find the 3rd GK a disgrace and haven’t played SQ IV
4. Grim Fandango of course.
M1: Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail - Josef is cute, but Larry is beautiful
M2: Simon the Sorcerer - I always looked at these two series shoulder by shoulder and consider Discworld Noir as the weakest game of the lot and the first Simon the best
M3: Gabriel Knight 3: BotS, BotD - Another tough one, but Space Quest is the Sierra’s series that I least liked
M4: Grim Fandango - better game in every department
M1 - Larry 7
M2 - Discworld Noir
M3 - Space Quest IV
M4 - Grim Fandango
1. LSL7
2. DISCWORLD
3. SQIV
M1: Machinarium
M2: Discworld Noir
M3: Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned
M4: Grim Fandango
M1: Machnarium wasn’t love at first site for me. It grew on me. I was part of my way through the game when the next year’s Aggie awards were going on and all of the great things they said about it encouraged me to finish the game! It was an amazing experience, and one of my most favorite adventure games. It is unique too, and almost started a new sub-genre. Other games, such as Journey of a Roach, Gomo, and Valiant Hearts: The Great War have also used this style. The puzzles in Marchnarium include ones that are actually challenging in a good way – they are not just trial and error obstacles meant to pad the length and make the game harder. They are totally legitimate in their design and challenge. Sorry Larry, but I haven’t played most of your games. I do support the unique premise and idea for the games however. I do want to play the LSL remake and LSL 7 someday.
M2: Discworld Noir has noir in the title, and I love noir games!
M3: Of those two, I’ve played GK3: BooS, BooD. It was a good game, although, not as good as The Beast Within, which was not as good as Black Dahlia, which was not as good as Under a Killing Moon, which was almost as good as The Pandora Directive, which is almost as good as being alive in the first place! Anyway, GK3 was a fun game with a great story. It disappointingly didn’t use FMV like with its predecessor, but it was a great game. I never remembering having trouble with the infamous mustache puzzle, but I probably just used a walkthrough, or got lucky.
M4: I think Grim Fandango might just be the game to win this tournament. It’s no match against a game I haven’t played, but it’s also a great game. It’s definitely in my top overall games list (for all genres), but probably not a high as most of you would place it. I enjoyed it very much, but can’t even remember what the story was really about since I played it over 10 years ago. That sounds like I need to re-play it right? If only a remake of the game was coming out in a few wee… oh hey, I’ll check that remake out!
