Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Sunday 13 April 2014
Here is another early point and click game called The Interbank Incident (1985). It’s a pretty interesting game in that you get to choose one of seven different characters to play the game as who all have different abilities and the game is randomized so that the solution is different every time you play.
The game is about the theft of a code book that can be used to control a secret government satellite that in addition to being able to control various computer networks is equipped with a laser that can destroy earth-based targets, even entire cities. You’ve been hired to find the thieves and save the day.
Amazing! Not only it predates Maniac Mansion, but also the icon interface looks surprisingly similar to the one Sierra adapted in 1990s.

Yes, actual history is often rather different than the popular conception of it. I’m certainly no expert at this stuff, but there are lots of interesting and innovative games from the 80s that I’ve stumbled across that get overshadowed by certain well known companies that seem to get credit for doing things first that they didn’t actually do. There’s no shortage of this in history though. Many people think Apple Computer invented the computer GUI for instance…
