Was just watching TV adverts and heard the famous old song 'La Mer' being sung. I recognised the scenery. Of course! Bioshock. They're advertising it on uk tv. It was on ITV4 for any UK'ers interested.

That is possibly the best first post I've ever seen on the Adventure Gamers forums.

I haven't played the game (yet), but I'm fairly sure that there are gore effects. As for limb-removal, I'm not so sure, and I'm inclined to guess not.

I think you should go to Filefront or Gamershell and download the demo. And see for yourself Be advised, though, the monsters etc. don't just stand around and wait for you, they move around.

The game is probably not that gory, I think, it is more the condensed space, the not knowing, the fear, uncertainty and doubt (fud) in this place where you're end up, and the need to survive at all costs - or nearly. The atmosphere, I've read, is very dark, sinister and yes, at times, scary.

Do not play this game - alone in the dark

edit:
sadly I can't play the game, since something has gone wrong with my demo install, evn the onne I got from Steam. OH, well, I'll play Two Worlds instead, both the demo and the full game

Mild spoiler warning for sam.

It's pretty bloody, but there are no severed limbs or heads or anything like that. That said, one or two particularly violent moments caused me to wince a little.
Spoiler:
golf club, anyone?

As for scares / fear etc, it's not really that kind of game. It's hugely atmospheric, yes, but less nerve-fraying than say Thief or System Shock 2.

Levine admits there were "real screw-ups" and he "understands why people are pissed off" about the online copy protection verification for the game and it comes down to a classic victim of their own success story. They couldn't have planned the game would be such an insta-hit and they weren't prepared, so when all those people tried to verify their PC versions online during installation the server crashed. He also reiterated patches are in the works for the FOV issues and that the copy protection limit locked in for PCs will be raised. He also assured us that the servers used to authenticate the game for the PC to allow installation will be there for decades in case someone wants to install the game years from now. He says there is nothing "insidious" in their copy-protection, it's the same as any other game that uses the same protection program.

May well be, overall, doesn't mean you have to like it. Oh man, it's hard. I haven't been that keen on a game.. heck, actually I haven't been that keen on ANYTHING since, uh, fuhgeddaboutit. The actual game going like hotcakes is a great thing, I guess. #1 PC game on amazon.de and #1 XBox360 game on amazon.com as we speak, for example.

Listening to the main theme. Again...

The bound-to-crack-you-up video game news of the day:

Valve bans Bioshock! Well, kinda.

^ That's funny.

Roman mentioned the commercial where they used La Mer. They're playing one here using Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea.

Hmm, I just found La Mer on YouTube. Are they the same song (except one's in French obviously)*?

*I'll ask this in Now Playing so I don't derail this too much.

Haha! Love it.
And with Valve's track record, I'm guessing those poor guys won't be playing Bioshock until somewhere around 2009.

Sucks to be (working at) Valve, who would've thought of that!? Didn't catch any TV commercials myself, but I only watch telly when football's on at the moment and I'd probably switch to another channel ASAP.

So little patience, so many questions, like will this game actually trigger a renaissance of Art Deco?

Yep, La Mer/Beyond the sea is the same song, Melanie, and the advert is the swing version more like bobby darin's.

A bit off-topicky, but you can play System Shock easily under XP now. This is legal, what with it coming fom Strangebedfellows, one of the biggest Shock communities around.

I might as well install the sequel too (again).

I got the demo working after it crashed one my first try some days ago.

That demo sure was full of athmosphere, and it came to end in such a cliffhanger like spot that I must start thinking about buying Bioshock.

My computer can't really handle games like this anymore, but it sure felt like a good game. I guess this time all that insane hype wasn't just bs, there was some truth there also.

Does anyone know whether Bioshock will eventually be available for PS3? I doubted it but my boyfriend is sure it will be. Wondering which one of us will be saying "I told you so".
