Review of The Cave by thorn969

Gameplay - decently adventure-like. Storyline - lacking

The puzzles were generally quite easy, but interesting enough and the timing was quite achievable. It was an interesting and, I feel, successful blend of platformer and classic adventure game. Despite the platformer control system, it played like an old fashioned adventure game and I liked that. And the voice acting was good and the Cave made for a fun character.

But really, it was almost totally lacking in story. The cave narrates some things but I didn’t ever feel like I was discovering a story or exploring a world. There was a bit of a lesson forced on me with no real choice that I could find, but this felt like an experiment in a new form of gameplay with multiple characters and classical puzzle-solving in a platform-friendly environment. As a gameplay experiment, it worked but I don’t think it should be sold or marketed as a game on its own. The Cave is a great character and there’s so much potential, it is a shame the stories aren’t adequately developed in a natural fashion.
