Telltale Games speaks to the Marin press

Local newspaper the Marin Independent Journal has done a writeup on Telltale Games, the newly formed Marin County adventure studio founded by ex-Sam & Max 2 team members.

The article covers the basics of Telltale, the story of how their founding was spurred on by the fan reaction to Sam & Max 2 getting the axe, and their plans for the future. Surprising to some fans will be the news that though the team wants to make a Sam & Max title, they're aiming to cast the Freelance Police in their second game, rather than their first.

Although the company is in negotiations for the license of another game, the trio said it is no secret that they want to develop the sequel to "Sam and Max" or something like it. An online petition in support of the canceled game incited the company's launch, they said.

"When we saw the petition and how upset people were, we knew we had to start Telltale Games," Bruner said.

LucasArts has a license for the game from the comic book's creator, Steve Purcell. That license expires in May, at which point Connors said he hopes to strike a deal with Purcell.

The article also includes a photo of Telltale's founding crew (left to right: Dan Connors, Kevin Bruner and Troy Molander) standing in front of a computer displaying the caveman guy who appears at the top of the Telltale website. Staff at the Scumm Bar website have speculated that the mysterious caveman is a character from one of Telltale's proposed "fun smaller games" that they will work on in the meantime before they finalize the rights to their first big title.
