Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts resigns

The president of LucasArts, Simon Jeffery, has abruptly resigned, says the LA Times. A LucasArts spokesperson could not comment on who will replace Jeffery, nor on his motivation for resigning.

Under Jeffery, the company forged publishing argeements with a host of external developers, such as Planet Moon (Armed & Dangerous), Verant (Galaxies), Ensemble Studios (Galactic Battleground), BioWare (Knight of the Old Republic) The Collective (Wrath, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine) and renewed its partnership with Totally Games for Secret Weapons Over Normandy. LucasArts' in-house teams are currently developing Sam & Max: Freelance Police and Star Wars: Republic Commando, but recently had to drop Full Throttle II: Hell On Wheels due to missing milestones and underwhelming results.

Jeffery started his tenure as president in January, 2000. He joined LucasArts as a vice-president in 1998, where his responsibilities included international operations and product development.

Update: according to GameSpot Jeffery "has decided to leave the company and return to his native England with his family." Mike Nelson, LucasArts' vice president of finance and administration, will take charge until a replacement is found.
