Doctor Who materializes today in the City of the Daleks
Doctor Who fans in the UK are getting a surprise early treat, as the first free episode of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games was released today by the BBC. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, the wait will be a little while longer, and may just result in a fee for the game when it's released next month.
In the first of four planned interactive episodes that coincide with the current television season, City of the Daleks sends the doctor and Amy back to 1963 only to discover a world destroyed in a Dalek invasion. Players must guide the intrepid pair carefully past alert Daleks in order to discover what's happened and return history to its proper course of events.
Produced by the BBC with input from series writer Phil Ford and Revolution designer Charles Cecil, City of the Daleks is free of charge to residents of the UK directly from the official website. For those outside the UK, however, a message states that the episode "will be available for purchase in early July." This is an unexpected first mention of a payment for non-UK gamers, and no further details have yet been provided, though the website says more information is expected shortly.
