New clues to Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper exposed

It's been no secret that Frogwares has been busy working on its fifth Sherlock Holmes mystery, but the lack of details was becoming a bit of a mystery itself. That's the case no longer, however, as today the Ukrainian studio and Focus Home Interactive unveiled the first screenshots and additional information about Sherlock Homes vs. Jack the Ripper.

The disturbing real-life tale of one of the most prolific serial killers of all time is widely known, but in 1888, London's Whitechapel district was beset by a series of brutal killings by the man the press dubbed Jack the Ripper, who was never caught or even identified. The new game pits the sharp mind of Holmes against the mystery behind the elusive murderer, as he explores the gloomy Whitechapel streets himself in search of clues.

This game also marks the first Holmes title to launch with both a first-person and third-person control scheme. The latter was introduced in the recent remastered release of The Awakened, giving players the choice between free-roaming direct control or simple point-and-click. Another novelty offered will be its "original system for piecing together crimes in order to test hypotheses as the investigation progresses to find the terrifying serial killer’s bloody trail."

Sherlock Homes vs. Jack the Ripper is currently targeting a release in March 2009.
