Demo launched for Odysseus Kosmos and his Robot Quest

Remember the scene in Interstellar where some poor schmoe spent many years alone on his ship while the crew spent mere minutes down on the water planet below due to a time distortion? Such is life for the title character in the upcoming sci-fi comic adventure, Odysseus Kosmos and his Robot Quest.

The notion of a lonely crew member left behind near a black hole must have resonated with indie developer Pavel Kostin. While having nothing to do with Christopher Nolan's superb movie, Odysseus Kosmos is an engineer on an orbital station in deep space with a LOT of time on his hands while he awaits the return of his crew. Perhaps not surprisingly, his favourite activities are eating and napping the years away. But Oddy's service robot Barton Quest will have none of his lounging around, as "there are a host of scientific problems to solve and experiments to conduct, an enormous ship that only you can keep in working order, and a star system dominated by a black hole that hides incalculable secrets, a black hole that turns out to affect your ship in strange and unexpected ways."

Intended to be a five-part series, a free "Episode 0" pilot episode has just been released, introducing players to the wisecracking main characters, the retro-styled pixel art presentation, point-and-click mechanics, and a offering just taste of the abundant puzzles to be solved. While the brief demo finds players trapped in Oddy's room trying to get out, the main episodes will be much larger and longer, promising 3-4 hours of gameplay each.

Odysseus Kosmos and his Robot Quest is expected to get underway for real with the first full episode on PC this summer, with new episodes published "every few months" after that. Mobile ports are also being considered for release sometime down the line. In the meantime, you can learn more about the game through the developer's blog.
