Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Tuesday, 23 August
I always thought Sokal’s game are a bit too linear (Syberia included), which is not a bad thing per se, but still… However, Sinking Island has that “depth” in a sense that you’re free to explore the (not that vast) surrounding at your leisure, and the original detective puzzle design where you “make guesses” makes for another interesting element.
I STILL think that, even though the “melancholy” is their trademark, all Sokal’s game (Syberia included) are a bit deserted with few hot-spots for its own good but that’s another story.
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
I managed to install my disc version (which I’ve had for a long time) successfully on my present Win7 but just haven’t got around to starting it as I just need the mood + enough time to invest as I don’t really like paying games in dribs & drabs & like to devote myself!

the design will suck you in, no doubt, its the best of Sokal’s, but the gameplay… hmm.. let me know what do you think of it once you have captured its mechanism ?
I usually hate timed stuff, but that’s one game for which I’d recommend playing with the (optional) time limit. The mystery is pretty obvious and pedestrian, and going through all the conversation topics one by one is tedious; however, having to figure out what to focus on and which questions to ask because of the time limit makes things a lot more interesting. Otherwise, you’re just going through a checklist and it’s boring.
