Dark Train is for those who like story-driven adventures with dark oppressive atmosphere. It combines explorable world with direct action gameplay. We like to describe it as “more than point-n-click”. Dark Train is played with a controller or mouse. Movement and spatial control is essential for game mechanics. Our design pillars are: non casual gameplay, exploratory game feel and consistency of all game layers (gameplay, visual, OST). Our background is in art production and we hold a strict design vision when creating our game.
Our story follows the journey of the inventor D. W. Tagrezbung and the mysterious contract from unknown client which he received years ago. Even as a child, he created a functional model of the universe and throughout his life drew attention to himself thanks to a number of significant inventions. At an advanced age of his peaceful life he received the last big contract with a very strange assignment. The client requested the creation of a model of the human world that embraces changeable weather and civilization. What he did not want to be part of the model was the human face or even people themselves. The actual challenge was presented by creation of transportation that would be capable of delivering the order. Inhospitable territory stretching between the client and the inventor is for centuries connected only by rail. Therefore D. W. decided to create a self-sufficient train with four wagons where each wagon will contain one familiar environment from his world. These environments are: Forest, City, Graveyard and Pool. Ingenious inventor also did not forget include various combinations of environments and theirs mutual weather or architecture affects. Eventually D. W. Tagrezbung devoted the rest of his life to the client’s order. The day the train was finally ready to go, the famous inventor died.

I’m surprised at the lack of comments, but I did vote on Greenlight and I see the game is now available on Steam - and at 50% off until the end of the month!

I don’t know about the other folks, but what put me off was this little word:
Action
I believe an average adventure game player’s reaction to this word is:
My reaction looks like this:
P.S. I appreciate the obvious effort the creators of Dark Train made to present their game to the members of this forum, though.
Everybody wants to be Cary Grant.
Even Me.

There is no action. “Direct action gameplay” means that you control the character directly - no point and click. Like Grim Fandango, but this time with the mouse.
There is no action.
Ok, that’s fine, but the mere word “action” in this thread’s title made me skip it.
I bet a lot of other people didn’t read it for the same reason.
Which may be a shame, of course.

Yeah, that is true and now we are aware of it. We wanted to show that Dark Train is more action in gameplay as Oscar mentioned.
It is the question: Dark Train vs. Game genres. For now, we use “atmospheric adventure”. Is it better? Or do you have any thoughts how to solve this in better way?

I feel like I juste have to congratulate you on the graphics - I’m in awe. This is truly beautiful. I like games with narratives, and this might be a tad too oppressive to my taste, but I’m thinking of getting it just because of how inspiring it looks.
