I’ve played all Tex games except Mean Streets Smile
I like Pandora directive, but also Overseer. (playing Overseer, in which Tex tells the events that happen in Mean Streets, I don’t think there is a reason that I should play Mean streets too)

I’m looking forward to Project Fedora, especially since things where left in the air in Overseer ending. I’ve also listened to the Tex radio theatre episodes, but it’s not the same… Frown

I honestly don’t understand what people have against FMV games. But maybe I only played the best ones.
I’m not sure I finished Mean Streets but I sure tried.
Martian Memorandum was fun!

Back in the day I have to say that FMV was pretty horrible considering the technology and all and some of the acting…well I won’t go there. Thing is though that Project Fedora did indeed get funded and I feel strongly that those of us who did pledge for this handsome looking project won’t be disappointed.

I love FMV games, always have , always will as long as acting is good or decent.

Love Tex series only because of Tex himself.

Under the Killing Moon is my Fav.

FMV works nicely for cut-scenes and such, but gameplay like GK2 and Phantasmgoria is a giant fail.

Tex Murphy has always had a little bit of a wink and nod to itself - it never took itself overly serious, which made it even better than other games that were giant wankfests posing as serious games.

take it easy on the pioneers, at least they started it and everything gets polished/upgraded by time plus the technology itself gives better options to problems to get fixed with every new project… even now what we see in the future will be looked back at as some glitchy projects or a failure (maybe)

Ech, considering the time, Sierra On Line could have done much better games with Phantasmagoria and The Best Within if they didn’t make them FMV.  It was them farting around with new technology, and it proved to be… well, bad.  Tex Murphy seems to be the only series still making FMV stuff!! Heh.

I’d sure hope if developers would fail like this a little more often. Grin

It’s just that some of those videos are of lower resolution than todays standard.

considering that we have somethings in common Steve and how i know very well previously your love for sierra, i will act like i didnt read those words like ‘Giant fail’...‘could have done better’ ... ‘farting around ’ ... ‘bad’.

Yeah, more fails then please! I’ve got a soft spot for FMV, love playing them. Hopefully gog will get more of those already. From the newer stuff I still have to get a hold of Casebook and Darkstar… and while we’re at it, in case anybody missed it and gets the FMV itch, check out Fate by Numbers. Really cool graduation project Tongue

Also, do give Mean Streets a chance if You can get past the uber-old-school, really enjoyed that game, taking notes was a fun addition (there’s a “Detective Information Chart” to print out for that).

Heh, those are just my personal preferences.  GK2 and Pantasmagoria, as games, are giant fails.  They suck to play today, and I haven’t replayed them like I have my other Sierra games.  That’s just me.

I love that people bring up that list with GK2 at #3.  I think that’s a terrible mistake - GK2’s story is epic and interesting, and the lost Wagner opera is pretty amazing - but it’s a terrible GAME.  Playing it is annoying and frustrating - I would love to see this one get a remake or even a DE-make!

FMV can be fun, Tex Murphy for example.

Heh, you know I love Sierra, but almost 20 years out, it’s how I feel about those games in particular - and not too many Sierra games after that era were very good.  But again, just my own person opinions.

In terms of interface and navigation, the use of FMV was a major impediment to Phantasmagoria and GK2. It doesn’t mean their gameplay was bad as a whole, but there’s a reason people get a negative impression about the FMV aspect in particular. Tex obviously avoids all those traps by just using it for the things that would normally not be interactive anyway like dialog and cut scenes, while avoiding it for everything else.

All the gameplay is real-time, 3D, and they’re some of the best designed adventure games ever.

Then they should show off THAT.  This screenshot looks like a still from one of those low budget Cinemax soft-core porn movies.  They can’t honestly expect this to be a selling point??

It looks good, but it´s just one photo so it is hard to say how the game will look like until some gameplay footage is shown. I see that some people have problems with FMV games. I don´t and in my opinion if the game is good then it does not matter if it is 2d, 3d or FMV. First FMV game I played was GK2 and that was about 3 years ago and it became my favourite adventure game along with Grim Fandango and Broken Sword 1. The reason why Tex Murphy games were so good is the FMV and I do not think that the game would have been so popular if it didn´t have live actors, especially Chris Jones.

Softporn is the thing, some Directors Of Photography of softporn films ended up in DOP of many major hits of today like Batman nolan Trilogy. The softporn films capture the
toning right , what the FMV games can do better than porn films is the Acting.

Ironically porn acting and mechanical structure in narrative can be found in major AAA games like Tombraider and GearsofWar.

And again i will never blame FMV type adventure games as Fault in this genre as long as
visual novels and automated games like TWD exist in this genre.

Phantasmagoria2 got me in the adventure gaming, it had amazing soundtrack and integration of story, FMV and gameplay for that time. Luring rat (hiding under the couch) , to get item back is one of the finest puzzles i ever solved. Smile
