Hello everyone, and welcome to Day 2 of the Scenies!

After the Award for Most Predictable Yet Unpredictable Plot Twist yesterday, we move on to the next category today: the Award for Best Shit Blown Up This Year. As you might expect, this award recognizes excellence in crafting a scene in which shit gets blown up.

Once again, there was a lot of competition this year. We all hold our breath as the envelope is opened and the winner is revealed to be . . .

Blowing up the giant robot chicken, from Space Quest: Incinerations by Box of Mystery!

In a year that had Sherlock Holmes blowing up everything in his path and zombies flying every which way, SQ: Incinerations might look like the underdog, but seriously: what could be better than blowing up A GIANT ROBOT CHICKEN??

I am not a huge fan… erm, I mean, the Scenies Academy is not a huge fan of the Space Quest series, nor is it particularly fond of fan games, but SQ: Incinerations is easily one of the best games of the year, commercial releases included. With a huge, ambitious plot, clever puzzles, exciting 3D cutscenes and A GIANT ROBOT CHICKEN GETTING BLOWN UP, it definitely deserves all the recognition it can get.

(Here’s the download link for those who missed its January release.)

So, that’s it for Day 2. See you tomorrow for more!

Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
