Not sure about your house Tim, but the apartment I live in, you can either bolt the door from top (which you can do from inside and you need a key to open it from outside), or bolt it from the bottom (which you can only do with a key from the outside). I usually only bolt it from the bottom with the key when i go out, so that way, there is no way of locking yourself. If I forget the key, the apartment is not locked. Problem solved Smile

Our door doesn’t have a handle on the outside. If you close the door, it’s locked. You can use the key to bolt it extra, but you’ll need the key to open it.

@Tim sounds like a blessing in disguise if you’ve discovered more drive in you.

It is. And my boss was shocked and disappointed at my sudden resignation when in fact he indirectly jumpstarted my new drive a few months ago and thus instigated it.
Good luck explaining that to him, though. He feels I should have discussed this first and looked at other options within the company, while I know there are none.

Here in the UK, it’s incredible tough to get into certain computer fields and your best bet is moving to London - which I have no interest in doing. I grew up in a smaller rural environment and it’s naturally what I prefer. London is a bit of a joke in my opinion too. Expensive, loud, crammed services, etc.

I’m also a more work to live person over live to work, so I’m quite content on living away from that race and learning a lot of skills via hobby etc.

I agree with your stance on work/life balance. Would getting experience in more general computer fields (for which there are undoubtedly more jobs) not help in the long run?

Also, congrats on the niece!

Very likely yes. I am looking at courses in other fields etc, but, well, I’ll have see what comes up. I am really tempted to make a go of it with my own little company mind. It’s been in the back of my mind for a long time now and I’ve already started playing around with the idea. Might just have to wait till it gets off the ground before being fully committed to it though.

Managed to meet my niece last night. I’ve seen pictures before, but she’s even smaller then I thought lol.

Congratulations on the niece , has an uncle your job is to educate her in the joy of adventure games she grows up. And if she is like mine she will only care about tablet F2P games about dressing princesses Neutral

@Tim
Good luck with the new job. Did you destroy a printer or other piece of equipment when you left this one?  I always have a couple of ones in my mind if I ever left my workplace… Smile

I haven’t left yet. I’ve got 3 months notice to go (and it doesn’t look like they’ll shorten that period Shifty Eyed)...
And while it would be good stress relief, I’m not planning on destroying something.
I always welcome an Office Space reference, though. Wink
And this will probably sum up my 3 months notice. Smile

Today I learned the clearing some wild roses while wearing t-shirt, shorts and sandals, is perhaps not the best idea in the world, especially not if there is also stinging nettles!

Ouch, Izno!  We don’t have stinging nettles, but we do have to be careful of poison ivy.  My sister managed to find a patch when clearing some brush about 10 years ago and was miserable for over a week.

Well we don’t have any poison ivy so I can’t be certain, but I believe that they are much worse than stinging nettles. Besides nettles are so common here, that I have build up quite a resistance to them over the years. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the thorns on the roses Meh

On another note, it is SO HOT in the San Francisco bay area these days. We had a few days of 90 degrees F and right now it feels like I am being roasted. We also have wild fires couple hundred miles north, and severe drought all across California. I have been living here for 17 years, and I never remember it being this hot before.
In LA, they dumped a lot of shade plastic balls into a reservoir to slow down the evaporation of water:

ugh, don’t even mention hot! Los Angeles has been deathly this past week, makes biking around for more than 10mins at a time in midday almost unbearable ><

Found something a LOT more interesting (content-wise), and it pays better too.

Congrats on the new job, Timmovieman! <3

I’m still looking for a full-time library job.

I liked my student days but I liked the life I had after that more. To finally earn your won money and be totally responsible for your own actions, being valued by colleagues and the freedom you have to live your own life are great.

And my congratulations UPsie! What will you do with the grand?
