Knee Deep
Act 1 of this “noir theatrical” adventure released today.
Anyone trying this? I’ve messed around a bit with, seems interesting. You control 3 characters - a blogger, a journalist and a Hollywood detective. Gameplay revolves around making choices in dialogues and in posting articles. Main story is the death of an actor but there seems to be some other conspiracies going on. Theatrical presentation is very original and soundtrack set the noir mood.
I just hope the other episodes don’t take forever like KRZ.
interesting. Looks like its worth a try. But yeah episodic is the last thing i want to hear from smaller devs.
Jim Sterling has done a let’s play of it:https://youtu.be/E_UfHYGc0o4
Recently completed: Game of Thrones (decent), Tales from the borderlands (great!), Life is Strange (great!), Stasis (good), Annas Quest (great!); Broken Age (poor)

There’s so much I like about this game: Kentucky Route Zero atmosphere, figurative theatrical scene setup, another side of Florida rest of the world doesn’t know much about…
But if I had to highlight only one thing, it would be really cool spinning news mechanics. As a journalist, I completely understand the weight of publishing a story for clicks or make it sound normal to gain a valuable contact in future. Or receiving pressure from editor to (not) publish xy story. Stories were, IMHO, funny and very well written, so I’d often had a hard time of choosing the best material and optimal approach.
Unfortunately, this will be one of those “long to wait” episodic adventures in style of Kentucky Route Zero and The Dream Machine, as I’ve been confirmed that chapter 2 is coming later this year.
One question for those who played through 1st episode:
Did you think that the second puzzle just before the ending was somewhat awkward placed and ruined the pacing a little?
Recently played: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons 5/5, Bioshock 2 4/5, Tomb Raider (2013) 3/5 Looking forward to: Gibbous, Saint Kotar

The puzzle with the color wires? That was a bit weird and unnecessary, also a kind of boring puzzle.
I agree that the stories aspect is interesting, not sure about the repercussions but always read each version before posting. Of course the blogger always went with the most ridiculous and inflamatory possibility

Yeah, I thought the same. That was my main gripe, along with the confusing AI. Surprisingly, puzzle in the middle of the game, the one was QR code, was not so tedious.
I played through 1st episode twice and the choice of the story has impact on whether someone will give you more clues/info about their angle or not. For now. That’s why I didn’t always use inflammatory style for Romana.
But I couldn’t help myself with K. C. Gaddis. I always asked for max amount of money to cover expenses for the dog.

That’s sooner than I was expecting! Very good! And looks like voice acting will fit and be a good addition.
Just back from showing the demo of Knee Deep Act 2 - Festival at EGX in Birmingham, UK! Such an amazing experience, with lots of positive feedback about the next chapter in the adventures of Romana Teague, Jack Bellet, and K.C. Gaddis - complete with voiceover acting. Looking forward to the retrofit of Act 1 with voices too. That’ll be coming with the Act 2 update in November.
