Wow.  I have to say this is probably the prettiest amateur game I’ve ever seen, and the gameplay video looked great.

Good luck!  Looking forward to this.

The game looks fantastic!  I can hardly wait for the finished porduct, but I hope you will also port it from some place other than Steam too.  I don’t do Steam.  However this is so beautiful I might be tempted in the end. Thumbs Up

The game will be probably avalaible DRM-Free too: most of our friends don’t use steam too!

Hello everybody!
It’s been a while. We’re having fun working on the game and a demo should be ready soon.
But the holidays are close now so let’s not speak about work: it’s time for…

The Coral Cave - Christmas Contest!!!
Vote for your favorite illustration.

To celebrate the end of the year, let’s play together!
Here are 4 sketches:

1 - Looking at the sea
2 - In the jungle
3 - Playing in the street
4 - Quiet evening
Only one will turn into a beautiful watercolor!

Vote for your favorite:
Follow this link to vote: http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=548c89c7e4b08e1f99e93079
You have until Monday, 6:00pm (GMT) to vote.
Then we’ll start drawing the chosen illustration, share the process with you everyday and give you the opportunity to win the finished watercolor!

So have you made your choice?

I quite like #2.

Then again, I quite like the others as well… Tongue

My favourite of the four would be nr. 1, looking at the sea.

Duckman: Can you believe it? Five hundred bucks for a parking ticket?
Cornfed Pig: You parked in a handicapped zone.
Duckman: Who cares? Nobody parks there anyway, except for the people who are supposed to park there and, hell, I can outrun them anytime.

Quiet evening for me.
This game looks like a great proposition, the actual analogue hand painting itself is crazy! Looking forward to the demo.

Yup, that one also received my vote. I also love cats, so that’s another plus!

Indeed! I wonder if we’ll find a way to use that idea somewhere else…

And now, the results:
Number 4 - Quiet evening - wins the vote!

We are very happy: many have voted and it was interested to hear people thoughts!
Tomorrow we’ll start working on the illustration. We’ll share the process with you and explain how to win the finished watercolor!

Many thanks for your votes and see you tomorrow!

Frown
I missed the voting…

Kudos for your work however. They all look really nice!
(I liked the 3rd more, but I guess it doesn’t matter now)

I missed it too, but would have voted for the evening scene. I always loved the night mood (in games and in general). Can’t wait to try the demo.

Yesterday, Quiet evening won the poll so we started working on this illustration. The first step consists in sketching the final art on some printing paper. Why don’t we start immediately on a watercolor paper? Because we sometimes erase during this process and it may damage the paper.

And now, let’s play!
You can win Quiet evening, a watercolor illustration of the game The Coral Cave by answering those simple questions:

1 - Where does The Coral Cave take place?
2 - What color are Mizuka’s pajamas?
3 - Which member of the Coral Cave‘s team is also a comics writer?
4 - Who helped Ryoko-chan to find her mabui when she was a little girl?

(all answers can be found on the official site: http://thecoralcave.com)

The contest is over. Thank you your participation!

Next steps of the process:

Step 2: pencils
After sketching the illustration on a printing paper, we use a light tracer to draw it on a good paper. We use a 8B graphite pencil and, for the paper, Canson C à grain 224g. The shadows and lights are defined during that step.

Step 3 : Watercolors
A simple contrast between a yellow tint for the inside and a blue tint for the outside creates a warm atmosphere.

And don’t forget to entry the contest!
