Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Tuesday, 26 April
You know, I never had problems with “more of the same” sequels, as long as they’re not an obvious “cash grabs”. Bring me Broken Sword 2 anyday, baby!
And Twinsen’s Odyssey aka Little Big Adventure 2 is exactly the type of sequel purists were hoped for: it maintains all of the important gameplay elements from the original, and brings some minor, comfortable changes. Still, LBA 2 is bigger and more closer to a sandbox title than the original, which wasn’t that usual with action adventures in the height of a (more linear) Tomb Raider popularity. Luckily, the game includes more-detailed map than in the first game, and now you can save your progress anywhere! Like I said, the rest of the game mechanics are untouched, with 4 stances that you use to get through a vast gameworld, now spanning on several islands (thus, the Ancient Greek reference in the title) and tackling the visiting aliens, and solving (mostly) inventory puzzles.
I gotta say that I was never a fan of this isometric perspective with polygonal graphics, but it does the job. And voice acting is excellent!!
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
Both this game and the first game are among my favorite games. I wish their had been another sequel after that.
I remember that I enjoyed very much when I first played it many years ago. Except for the leapings. I hated the leapings….
Yeah, it took me ages in the first game to get past the boulder scene in the old temple where you have to leap over some holes while a boulder is chasing you. In most cases, it’s not very difficult game arcade wise but that scene in the first game was hard.
Oh how I love this game and the first one. It is one of those games that very few people seem to know about but those who have played it have amazing memories of it. It was amazing looking for the time, and the firsr PC CD game I bought.
