Private Moon Studios and Microïds have released classic point-and-click adventure titles Agon on Steam.
Both titles are available at a 40% initial discount ending 25/26 November. Subtitles are coming in a number of languages and can be added as they become available.

AGON - The Mysterious Codex (Trilogy, episodes 1-3)

AGON - The Lost Sword of Toledo (episode 4)

For those who have not played the games: AGON is an adventure series about the journeys of British Museum professor Samuel Hunt in search of mysterious ancient relics. The first title, The Mysterious Codex is a trilogy: his first three adventures in London (in the museum), in arctic Lapland and in the jungle of Madagascar. In the fourth episode, The Lost Sword of Toledo he investigates a crime in the historic Spanish city. The series has a multi-layered storyline but the episodes have individual plots, well-integrated puzzles, authentically reproduced environments and great music.

Are these actually any good? They’re not talked about often here. I only really know them from browsing screenshots for quizzes… Tongue

I really enjoyed the first three episodes and was very disappointed when the company stopped supporting Macs with the fourth.  They are solid first person games with decent puzzles, and Samuel Hunt, the character you play, is very likable.  The first episode in London sets the scene for Hunt’s travels around the world, searching for pieces of the Agon.  To achieve this, you will have to play and win a board game developed in that country.  There are supposed to be 12 episodes, and they are currently working on the fifth.

I’ve only played the 4th and it was good enough. Not anything particulary amazing, but a nice little puzzle adventure.

I’ve played the first three games that were combined to make the Mysterious Codex compendium and enjoyed the characters and varied locations. Some reasonably tough puzzles too.

I’ve played all 4 and enjoyed them - a little clunky in places maybe, but well-realised settings, some decent puzzles and a likeable main character made for good adventuring. Maybe being on Steam will generate enough extra sales to encourage them to continue the series - Toledo was a long time ago now, and they’ve released two other games in the meantime (one of which isn’t available in English as yet).

I remember back in 2003 when they released the first episode and told us that they intendet to release 10 to 12 episodes in a couple of years. One year later, they released the second. 3 years later to that, they released de third. And 5 years later to that, they released the fourth. Well, I don’t expect that they will ever release another episode, so play the four and enjoy. They are good games.

P.S. Phlebas, I never heard of 2 other games in the series being released. Where did you heard or saw this?

Not exactly two more games in the series, but the same developer released Yoomurjak’s Ring in 2009:

It’s an FMV game starring the grandson of AGON’s Professor Samuel Hunt, available in Hungarian with English subtitles.

There’s also a sequel Miazma, which has no English translation so far:

Whoa, where did this come from? Looks like I might have to learn Hungarian!

AGON is good and Yoomurjak’s Ring is great.
