Thanks, wael. What program do we need to run the trailer?

Did you encounter problems viewing it, too? :D

It was asking for a program to run, and none of what I had could do it. What do you need to run a .rar file?
you need to extract the zip archive but I believe windows media player can play it. Or winamp can play it. I didn't check the format the french publisher put it online today and I didn't controled the process.
for the rar file go to www.winrar.com you can extract the file afterward. .rar is an archive format.

A .rar file is compressed with Winrar.. as simple as that. :) But somehow, my player (VLC player) couldn't play the movie, after I had extracted the file... And that neat thing usually works with pretty much *any* format. "If that movie doesn't work using VLC, the file's broken" , we say. :D.
Maybe there's just a codec missing.

What do you need to run a .rar file?
WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/index.htm). It's an archive compressor similar to WinZip (only better). Use it to uncompress the *.rar file.
edit: Ooops, someone already adressed this while I was still typing. :)
Martin, you are here!
how's the weather in Germany?????? are you going to say NO! to Europe too????
I don't know what is VLC player, but the file isn't broken, I downloaded it.

Hey there, Wael! :)
In Germany, the European Constitution was approved by the parliament, not by a referendum. (I'm not entirely sure how a vote would have turned out, though.) I'm personally FOR this constitution, so in this case, the government's opinion and mine happen to be identical. :D Had there been a plebiscite, I'd have voted Yes.
Hope all is well in Kiev? Drop by AGDF more often! (Download's ready, off to watching 80-days-long movies! ;)

Thanks for the link. I dunno what to think about this. It's kind of blocky, although that isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if the game is up to par. I like the vast cityscape very much. Definitely, want to see more.

Heh. Remember the (in)famous Times headline? 'Storm in the Channel: the Continent is isolated'. :D
On topic: Good god, Wael, who built all those vast sceneries?! Best of luck with 80 Days! We're going to follow it closely, and I hope know dtp will provide us with copies. ;)

Heheh. Let's not get into politics.
Yeah, the draw distance is great on the video, and I liked the San Francisco area. Are all those buildings individually modelled? Very crisp texturing, lovely shadows on the characters, very beautiful design, and the costumes are lovely... the little touch with the guy with the paints is nice. Reminds me of a prettier Republic: The Revolution... and I hate to ask, as it's so overused nowadays, but are you considering a bloom or post-rendered HDR effect for those that can use it? I think it'd suit it.
Tell you something though, love the music. Very, very unique theme - attractive, blissful, forward-thinking... I'm looking forward to this based on that alone! Who's doing the scoring? You should consider a soundtrack CD with the game, or at least MP3's.

:frown: wael, would you please work on the movie and reformat it to run in a normal player like Windows Media Player? I've had to download WinRAR and videoLAN to try to see it and it still can't work. Many of us here (and other adventure communities) don't have much technical knowledge on this so you'd have a far better chance of getting us interested in 80 Days if you could make it easier for us. Thanks. :)
[goes and uninstalls WinRAR and videoLAN]

:frown: wael, would you please work on the movie and reformat it to run in a normal player like Windows Media Player? The zipped version I downloaded worked totally fine with WMP. Didn't even need Winrar since I didn't download that version. You can find out what codec the video needs (and therefore find out if you've not got it installed) with GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/).

Works in my WMP10 without any problems. All it is is an AVI file.

No probs here. Trep, you should keep Winrar too as it's actually widely used. There are codec packs you can download which will open up your computer to a wider range of video files - just poke about a bit. They won't harm your computer.

Doesn't WinZip have support for .rar files too? I think it has, but I can't be sure since I always use winrar
Hi Martin,
it's raining in Kiev, now the team working on 80 days is big so that's why we can have such huge scenes.
What is your next project? are you going to move to 3D too or will you stay 2.5?
It's good Germany didn't ask people directly so they didn't take a revenge against their governement as they did in France.
SJH, I don't plan visual effects for beach volley players ;) , Music is not new is the one from "Journey to the center of the earth" composed by us. but the music of "80 days" will be unveiled in the next trailer with the dancing part and the next vehicles.
Intrepid, I'll ask our french publisher to maybe put an avi file, but I think the video can be played with the usual WMP, maybe the latest version from MS. in case of you can take it at www.microsoft.com

I had to look up volleyball to get that one. :P And I still don't! :D As for the music, I'm now expecting great things. But you can only blame yourself!

I've downloaded and installed the latest WM player this morning, but somehow things didn't work out as planned. There's obviously still a codec missing. Did anyone of you install a special codec pack on your machine?
Edit: It didn't work with this one, either. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx
try to download and install this and play it again. hope it works

Well, wael :), unfortunately not. (Yikes, French, but thanks!) :D I thought the movie was in avi and not in realplayer format?! I'll try it with some other codec pack later.

:D Thank you, but it's now officially released!! Check our news story.
It looks MARVELOUS, wael! Big, vibrant, and expansive. You rarely get adventure games looking and feeling like this. Good luck with it!
Am I imagining things, or is this (http://www.adventuregamers.com/screenshot.php?id=256&screen=3929) San Francisco? Sure looks like it, anyway. :D
Haven't had a chance to see the trailer yet. I'm downloading it now.
