I'm on Mars for the second time and have managed to get the fruit from the tree - I couldn't find anyway to give it to the miner in the bar or the bartender!
After consulting the only walkthrough available it said to go to the cabinet and use the the empty water bottle on the bottle of vodka. I assume this means the cabinet in the police station, but when you open the cabinet there is no vodka bottle to click on - the only available bottles are wine, and a bottle which Ren says is homemade?
I cannot use the empty bottle on either of those.
If anyone else has had this problem and solved it then please, please, tell me !
:D :D :D :D :D
Um... you sure? One of those bottles should be vodka.
Have you tried looking at them all first, before using the empty bottle on them?
(Could it be the one Ren says is homemade?)
Also, do you know why you're doing this? Have you talked to the bartender and the miner about vodka? Maybe the bottle isn't playable yet and you need to trigger it with conversation?

Thanks for the swift reply, but I've done all those things - spoken to the bartender and the guy in the bar who wants a "fruit vodka", I've got the fruit and looked in the cabinet in the police station - I drank the water and then looked at all the other bottles but the only ones available to click on are the bottle of wine and the other one which Ren says is homemeade. I assumed this was the right one and tried to use the empty bottle on it but to no avail - she just says "I can't do that" or "what are you trying to accomplish" :frusty: :frusty:
Its really really annoying because I can't find any way to get past this problem :frusty:
The only other thing I can think of is that this is a major problem that could be solved by a patch?

Right, I just loaded up a save about that point in the game. You should have 2 bottles of water in your inventory, drink one by using it on Ren. Now open the cabinet. The bottle of vodka is next to the bottle of 'exotic alcohol'. You can't actually interact with it, just use items on it - that may be where you're getting stuck. If you click on it, she says 'Vodka, traditional Russian booze...' (or something to that effect). Use the empty bottle on the vodka. In your inventory, you now have a bottle of vodka, use the fruit on it, for the fruit vodka. Then use the full bottle of water on the empty vodka bottle on the shelf, and go give the fruit vodka to the miner.
This is exactly how I did it (like just 2 minutes ago), so if it doesn't work, it may be a glitch, and you might want to try loading an earlier save.

Ugh, I wanted to strangle her when she said that. :(
I would try to play through the section for you and give you a hint but I've uninstalled it and would rather not install it again if I don't have to (it took such a long time the first time!) Maybe someone can help you out. If it turns out no one else knows, I'll reinstall and mess with it if you'll send me your saved game.
I doubt it's a bug... more likely just poor design. This game has many bugs, but I've never heard this one.
One other thought - the developer has a forum on the Legacy: Dark Shadows website. You could try posting there and see if anyone has an idea.

This is soooo annoying - I tried this 10 times but the only bottles in the cabinet I can click on with the empty water bottle are the wine and the homemade alcohol, but everytime she says "nope" or "what exactly are you trying to accomplish" - the empty water bottle will not interact with anything else!
I've checked the official forum and there are no hints there - I really don't know what else to do ? :frusty:
Mansie, this may sound stupid, but did you open the cabinet door?

Well, yes, I might be pretty dumb but I did manage to open the door - that was how I found out that I couldnt interact with any of the other bottles :\ :\ :\
And you have two bottles - one that's empty because you drank it, and one that's full of water?
I'm not trying to suggest that you're dumb. :) Just breaking down where the problem could be. I remember having some trouble interacting with the bottles initially but I don't remember exactly what the trouble was.

I have two bottles and have managed to drink them both! I still can't seem to get any further :frusty:
One of the bottles needs to have water in it, to solve the puzzle. Maybe that's what's causing the problem? Go buy another bottle of water and then try.
Or you can do as Pelican suggested, and try playing from an earlier save. I'm sorry, really not sure what else to suggest. :(
A lot of people on GameBoomers played this game. Maybe someone there can help you with a save if no one here can.

God I'm such an idiot!!
I assumed that, because I was able to view items in the cabinet, that the door was already open!
After being so frustrated I dragged the cursor around for a new hotspot, and then I found it - the bloody door! - one click and all my troubles were solved - apart from the fact that Ii had drunk both bottles of water so was unable to leave that scene!! :frusty: :frusty:
Oh well - loaded an earlier save and eventually got past this "incredibly hard puzzle "
*D
Sorry, it's not funny. Except it is, kinda. :D
Glad you got it figured out. Now get Ren to a bathroom, quick!

It definitely wasn't amusing at the the time, especially when I realised I'd wasted a day on what was really a very easy puzzle, but looking back I suppose its kinda funny.
There is too much pixel hunting in this game for my tastes - there have been a few points when I, in my eagerness to finish the game have missed vital items because I didnt look in every single millimetre of the screen :frusty:

I found that despite the occassional pixel hunt, I was never stuck for very long on this game. Mostly since the majority of puzzles required an item that was within a couple of screens. It made it easier, but felt a bit too convenient. :P

The same here - the only puzzle that stopped me playing for any lenthg of time was the one I mentioned in the sheriff's office, and that was really due to my impatience.
I agree about the majority of puzzles - the solutions were way too convenient and I actually felt a little let down when I finished the game - Ren goes into the Stalingrad base, drops the explosives into the hole and everything blows up - the end!!!!
I just felt there should have been something more, maybe a harder puzzle?
It was a good game with an interesting storyline, but the puzzles were pretty lame compared to similar games like TMOS.
Also the voice-overs and translations were absolutely appalling!!
