When I put in disk 1, the autoplay box comes up. Play and install are both dimed and non-clickable. And on the CD, the setup.exe doesn't work :(
BTW, I'm running XP

have you tried Add/Remove programs in your control panel?
Also, is the CD clean? if not, take a very soft cloth and gently wipe dust or anything off of the disk...keeping your movements starting at the center and going in a straight line to the end. If you rub the cloth in a circular motion, you might harm the disk. you can also use warm water.
I've played through this game several times on XP home and proffessional.
if that doesn't work, the CD might be corrupt or damaged. where did you purchase it? if it's a retail place, you can return it.

This might have something to do with compatibility mode.

Did you install this game before, and forgot to properly unistall it (ie, just deleted the contents of the folder)? If that's the case, you might have to manually remove it from the registry.
The installer needs to be in compatibility mode for this game. Don't use the autoplay. Look for setup.exe on the disk. Put it in compatibility mode for win98 (or if that doesn't work, try others). Then install directly from setup.exe.

One other thing: Sometimes after running a setup like this that likes to be in compatibility mode it sticks around and subsequent setup's do nothing. Kill the existing processes with task manager or reboot to get rid of them.

Hey you're right. I put the game in for another crack at it today and the install button was actually clickable. It worked. Don't know why it wasn't working yesterday though.... anyways, All I have to say is: Thanks gang :)

Alright, now I'm having camera troubles. I've been right-clicking and changing the camera angle via that menu. It is really starting to get tedious though, is there a way to have the have the camera automatically change or something?
I think not. :(
Maybe one of the resident GK3 experts knows a way but I'm pretty sure right-clicking is the only method for doing this.

Automatically? You mean, the camera doesn't change when Gabriel, for example, talks to someone?
Turn cinematics on. (From the main menu.) That should solve it.
Also, you can adjust the camera level, position and angle. While pressing the left mouse button down and dragging the camera, Shift, Control (I think) and the right mouse button (I think) change different attributes of the camera. To bring the camera to a normal level, press space.
You can also Inspect objects. Left click an object and click Inspect.
...Did I even understand your question? Anyway, all this stuff is in the manual.

Oh, so that's what manuals are for :)
Thanks for the help gang. And BTW Fov, you are the resident Gabriel Knight expert.

I'm thinking of one person in particular who has played GK3 something like 70 times.
