In chapter four as you pass through the woods and the werebear attacks, after using the silver-sling on him, it shows a slightly mismatched animation as you run away and he steals the cloak and you leave the forest, then it warps me back to where he jumps out, and has him kill me. Restoring from the death screen leaves me right after i get warped backwards (no cloak, no silver sling) without any chance to react before he kills me again. Now I was foolish enough to try and say 'no' to the death prompt, so now my save is stuck mid-loop and i am going to have to redo the chapter again (thank god for the chapter select at the start of the game.. although being able to use a normal savegane feature would have been better), but nonetheless, I remember this happening when I was first playing through the game so long ago, so I don't think it has to do with the fact I'm running Windows XP (SP1), but I'll add that here anyways. While I wait for response I'll try and get back to just before the bear death-loops me.
Welcome to the forum. *D
I'm sorry no one has an answer for you. I have not heard of this error before. Were you able to get past the problem spot by starting the chapter over?

Started over, and got back to the same point; tried with cpukiller on, tried different compatabilty modes, cant get past it. Thanks for replying, even though everyone seems to think Im crazy being the only person with this problem. There is one other thing I can try. I forgot at one point we had gotten a second KQ7 CD for what reason I can't remember, Ill try and dig that up and see if my CD just has some problem at this point in the game.
Let me know if that fixes the problem. I'm curious now. Could be a problem with the CD, I guess...

Seems the other CD is a different version. I was forced to reinstall, and this time had no problems with the bear. So the reason is to remain a mystery then.
That could explain it. If I remember correctly, the initial release of KQ7 was very buggy. They had to release another patched version soon after. (Does the version you're using now have more save options than the version you were using before - like, before you could just place the bookmark when you were ready to quit, but now you can choose to save and keep playing, save and quit, etc? If yes, that was the buggy version and this is the updated version. They added more save options because people disliked that they could only place a bookmark when they were quitting out of the game.)
Good thing this game lets you start at the beginning of any chapter... at least you didn't have to replay the whole thing. Enjoy the rest of it!

Yes it does. Is there no downloadable patch to fix the old one however? Or is that CD now a glorified coaster?
You could try this patch (ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/patches/pc/kq7pat.exe) on Sierra's ftp site. I don't know what it does though.
If you have the documentation and box and everything else, that game may be sought by collectors.
