View Full Version : New (?) Text Adventures released
For those of you who are fans of text-only adventures (or interactive fiction as it is now more commonly known - since when did this come about??), you might like to try some of the shareware adventures we are converting across to Windows from the Sinclair QL computer.
The following adventures were all published by Talent Computer Systems of Glasgow in the 1980s for a range of machines, and are now all available again for the PC:
The Lost Kingdom of ZKUL - a realtime adventure set in the mythological times
West - another realtime adventure set in the wild west
The Prawn - a well written spoof of the original Pawn adventure by Magnetic Scrolls
All of the adventures (and more to come) can be accessed via our website:

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between a realtime adventure and an ordinary adventure?

Good question - in these particular realtime adventures, you have to cope with people moving around you and events occur after a specific passage of time, rather than (as with most adventures) waiting until you reach a certain point in the adventure.
For example, night and day are implemented - meaning that you need to find a light source as soon as possible - the adventure will not ensure you have a light source before everything becomes too dark to see!!
WOW! West and Zkul, the games that introduced me to the (text) adventure genre! You wouldn't believe how fondly they are remembered... :P

In these particular examples, you have to contend with portcullises falling on your head if you don't move out of the way fast enough, dying of thirst (I think? Don't drink the pool!!), "ill-tempered" robbers shooting you before you shoot them, and other realtime fun!
Well, I hope these live up to my memories... excuse me if you don't see me for a few days. :)

Have you tried Cadre's other games? Perhaps you lean more to the story then to the actual puzzles {like me}. http://www.adamcadre.ac/games.html
Since you've already tried Photopia, I'd recommend Shrapnel and 9:05.

other than Photopia
Just to confirm that we have now also released the original QL adventure Return To Eden (shame its not the level 9 game) for the PC as well.
Our website has also now moved (shame no edit tag appears by my original post) - have a look at:
RWAP Adventures (http://www.rwapadventures.com)
After a certain period of time (not sure how long) the ability to edit a post goes away. Mods can still edit though, so I fixed the link in your first post. :D
Do you hold the copyrights to these games? And/or do you have permission from the copyright holders to host them?

Thankyou

I am the copyright holder for some, such as Return to Eden. The games which were previously published by Talent Computer Systems, remain their copyright - I do however, have their permission to publish the games on their behalf, subject to royalty payments :-)

That's what I wanted to hear. :D
