westerner is put down for its few arcade sequences and carrot raising
but the game really reminds of good old times :P

Black mirror is critisiced for bad voice acting but the game is really good it has great story and puzzles and the interface is so simple..

also theres a new sherlock holmes game but i think it has too many flaws....

It's not been released in the U.S. just yet... I think in a few weeks it will be (sometime in February, I think it was said)?

It's being published here by The Adventure Company (http://www.adventurecompanygames.com/), so that's where you can directly get information from.

Is syberia 2 good cause it looks kinda boring on the pictures the areas look like they arent populated?

Wait. You mention Sanitarium (which is about 7 years old... I played that one when I was still living with my parents), but not The Longest Journey?

And is there a reason you left out Danger on Deception Island and Haunted Carousel, or did you just never get around to play them? I realize it's personal opinion and stuff, but I liked both quite a bit more than Blackmoor Manor.

And Necronomicon? Granted, the atmosphere was nice, but the gameplay... urgh. From annoyingly easy to virtually impossible in the blink of an eye. Just curious, but if you considered that one of the better games... which games did you consider crappy? I'm not trying to pick a fight over taste (that would be rather pointless) or anything - I'm seriously interested why you liked that game.

The entirety of both Syberia games are unpopulated. The only characters included are the ones who help you progress in the game. All in all the Syberia series is horribly bereft of interactivity, the only things you can touch are inventory items, puzzles, and what few NPCs there are.

Of course, your idea of boring may be someone else's idea of relaxation. I've played the first Syberia, and I loved it despite its 'boring' gameworld. There are demos for each one, find them, play them, and decide for yourself.

I'm not sure which reviews you've been reading, but the 'top game websites' often don't like adventure games as much as the adventure gaming websites do. ;) I suggest taking a look at our Reviews (http://www.adventuregamers.com/reviews.php) section as you try to decide what to get... they can be sorted by release date.

Moment of Silence is also available as an import from the UK (I'm assuming you're in New York? :D) but it costs $45, so you may just want to wait a few weeks for the American release.

ps You're right that the Syberia games don't have a lot of people standing around on the streets, etc. I didn't find them boring but there is a lot of walking around empty screens.

The Watchmaker

Antoinetta

Oh my God! Are you really an adventure gamer?
How can you include The Watchmaker in your list? It has to be one of the worst adventures I've ever played - wooden voice acting, atrocious camera angles, appalling gameplay - the reasonable storyline goes nowhere near to making up for the other disappointments!

I mentioned Sanitarium, because even though it is an older game, it was recently re-released, and updated so as to play on contemporary computers.

I have played about ten and a half of the Nancy Drews, as I’m currently stuck on the wind puzzle in Blackmoor Manor. Of all the Nancy Drews, I think Ghost Dogs was my favourite, but I didn’t feel that Deception and Carousel were as much fun as most of the other titles.

The only problem I have with Necronomicon’s gameplay is a problem with several hot-spots not being active; I have had to reinstall the game twice in order to proceed. But as you say, the atmosphere was good, and that’s a large part of why I play games in the first place. And as for what I feel are really crap games:

The Haunted Casino
Timeline
Clue: Murder at Boddy Mansion
Titanic – Dare to Discover
New Adventures of the Time Machine
Forever Worlds
Ring
Traitor’s Gate

The gameplay in Watchmaker was a bit klutzy, what with some hot-spots (like around trees and such) filling half your screen, but after a bit of getting used to, it wasn’t anything I couldn’t work around. Likewise, camera angles were less than perfect, but again, it wasn’t so bad it interfered with my playing of the game; they weren’t half as bad as what I saw on Broken Sword III when my neighbour fired it up on her machine. Also, for whatever reason, I never notice voice acting, I have never had this get in my way of enjoying a game. Halfway through Watchmaker there was a sudden and dramatic cut-scene which not only moved the story along, but raised the level of dramatic tension considerably; this was excellently done. And I can say that I liked this game even though I never finished it, at the tail end of the game is a damnable action sequence which I could never make it past.

I recently got back into gaming and this was the first title I started again with. It was a blast. A terrific timeless story, good easy/challenging puzzle mix, and great contrast between locations. And of course since it's from 2000 you can get it real cheap now.

Here's a review (http://www.justadventure.com/reviews/Odyssey/Odyssey.shtm)

Unfortunately, I bought this game before I realized its interface is arrow-controlled character movement. The game looked beautiful, but after about 45 minutes of enduring the frustration of having to watch the keyboard more than my screen, I gave up. The game is buried somewhere in my stash of nearly 200 other games.

And as for what I feel are really crap games:

I read the Michael Crichton novel, which was really enjoyable but I have seen so many bad reviews for this game. I really wanted to buy it when I saw it in Game because it was very cheap but all the bad reviews stopped me from wasting my money!

I think the puzzle you are talking about is the one where you have to get out of the underground tomb thingy before it fills up with sand?
If so, it was really annoying - not much further after that I uninstalled the game and sold it on ebay to some unsuspecting sucker for a nice profit 8-)

The Watchmaker was bad in so many other ways - the worst camera & control system ever, incredibly bad voice acting, poor facial animations.

The thing that attracted me to this game was the storyline, which didn't disappoint.
Its just a shame that the game was let down on so many other levels.

No, the situation I couldn't get past was at the end of the game when you had to be playing as Victoria, and you had to dart out from behind a pillar up a side-passage, or be shot. You had to both position Victoria then watch the "bad guy" (I forget his name) and time her sprint just when he was looking away, at a certain point. But I could never position her correctly and get her out in time, the game inevitably switched to a first-person view and ended with a bullet directly approaching me, in the centre of my screen.
