 Oh man, the only game on that list that even comes close to being an adventure game is Silent Hill...but even THAT'S a long shot.

I'm amazed specifically at Metroid Prime 2 being called an adventure, when it's blatantly an FPS. What the hell were they smoking there?

Bah. Where will the genre be in 10 years with your conservatism? You are all so purists. :P

And is it
Misappropriation Of The Term "Adventure" Awards 2004
or
Misappropriation Of The Term "Adventure Awards" 2004 ? ;)

Sweet merciful crap, these are hilarious. I've had to revise my previous vote for IGN's Pirates! as that is clearly a comparatively minor misappropriation.

I was torn between 1UP and VGAManiacs, but ended up going for the latter.

I'm chortling all over again.

Is it possible that this is a blessing in disguise?

Think of it. Now, when designers or developers go to publishers and say, "I have a concept for an adventure game," the publishers might not automatically say, "Forget it! Adventures are dead!"

If all it takes to revive the genre is to allow other kinds of games to call themselves adventures, then I'm all for it.

:D

Grand Theft Auto: Narnia actually sounds kind of cool... *D

I sometimes search the 'for sale' section of a local community bulletin board to see if anyone's getting rid of their games. It's funny... if I plug in 'PC games' or 'computer games' it turns up (of course) mostly PC games and a fair amount of the time they're getting rid of adventures (but usually the ubiquitous stuff like Myst)... but if I plug in 'adventure games' all the hits are for consoles. Usually there's something like Zelda in the mix, but in general the games most likely to contain the word 'adventure' are the least likely to actually *be* adventures.

Do you think we can get this to work in reverse? Sneak adventure games into the other genres by highlighting appropriate parts

Full Throttle - Motorcycle (and car) driving game.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - Fighting game (if you choose the fists path)

Or maybe we just need to modify the titles so they sound like other genre games.

Schattenjager : Contracts

The Secret of Sim Island

Myst-Life 3 : Revenge of Saavedro

What do you reckon? :D
