Recently I went digging around in my basement again, trying to find that elusive copy of Kings Quest VI that I know is hiding down there. Last time I found a game I never knew I had, Laura Bow: Dagger of Amon Ra. This time I found a game I had thought I lost, Space Quest IV. I also found another CD which I am not sure if they are adventure games or not.

It is a Sherlock Holmes collection disc, with three games:

The Case of the Mummy's Curse
The Case of the Mystified Murdererss
The Case of the Tin Soldier

I just want to know if these are actually adventure games or something else.

Yes, this is part of a 3CD/9 case set. It features FMV - you get the main story from the client soliciting Holmes help - then travel to locations to question others (some may be closed depending on the case or open) then you deliver your version of events to the judge.

It's not a heavy dose of gaming - - but it's interesting and fun if you like FMV.

Who makes the game? What system does it run on? How old is it? Sounds like it might be worth getting.

Jeez. Can I come over and dig around in your basement?! :D

Laura, is this part of the Consulting Detective series? I have a set of three of these cases on CD too, I think they're different cases though. Mine is volume 1.

Yes it is part of the Consulting Detective Series.

I have the original 3CD set for MAC and they have released a re-mastered DVD version for PC/MAC.

I just read a review of the DVD version of the game at Quandary, and they didn't say anything about a PC, but talked about running the game on a TV set, and controlling things with the DVD's remote control. I don't associate DVD with television sets, but with a computer, and I control things with the mouse or keyboard, not with some "remote."

What gives here, will the game play on a computer or not? I get the impression from the Quandary review that it will not.

Well you would have to have a DVD-Rom to play it on your PC but yes it plays on the PC and you click on your choices with the mouse. They highlight when your cursor is over them.

And am I safe in assuming that if it's on DVD that it's playable on Windows XP? Because if it is, it's another game for the wish-list.

I was wrong, I have the same three cases as TigerShard. Mine is a CD for DOS. I have not tried it on XP.

There is a little more info about these games in the History of Holmes (http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,412) article that ran when Silver Earring was released last summer.

Dude... I read that, and along with vivid memories of my oh-so-high tech at the time quadra 610, came memories of the games that came with it. Just Grandma and me, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago, and That.freaking.game, so I checked around my old box of free stuff I never asked for but couldn't seem to part with, and its there. I forgot how fun this game is. Thank you for inadvertently reminding me

I actually did play these on TV, well one of them at least. There are actually 3 seperate consulting detective DVD's, with a couple of games on each.
They are always copies coming up on ebay, or gametz.

Or board games?

I don't know offhand any online stores that sell Mac games, but there must be some. You can also try eBay - or post a note over at the Espionage Emporium at Spyglass that you're looking for Mac games. Someone had a bunch of them a couple of months ago. Try www.spyglassguides.com for that one.

happy trails,

Carolyn
