Story of Syberia

I recently completed Syberia, and I'm a bit confused by one seemingly minor detail.

In the Voralberg factory, on Anna's desk, there is a half-written letter to her brother Hans. In it, she mentions that it's been 100 years since they last saw each other. However, Anna died when she was 86.

Can anyone explain that to me?

I think it's just a figure of speech. Like "I've traveled for ever to get here" or something like that :).

I thought it might be, but her exact words were something like, "It's hard to believe that a century has passed since we last saw each other".

I wonder if something was lost in the translation. Kind of like the Blue Helena (http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showthread.php?t=6552) puzzle.

Sounds pretty figurative to me. What was it, about 70-80 years since they saw each other? That's close enough to 100 that saying "a century has passed" wouldn't be entirely out of line.

I suppose she could also have been referring to the fact that the turn of the century in 2000 had passed.

According to Anna's diary, 64 years had passed. I'll just let it go and accept that she didn't mean it literally.

wow! I'm impressed. I can't remember reading that letter. I probably did and then promptly decided it was irrelevant. Either that or I've got alzheimers. EARLY alzheimers, I might add ..... if I could remember the topic. What was it again?

Sheesh!! Must it be a LITERAL 100 years? It's figurative, okay? Basically what Anna means is that she hasn't seen Hans since they were very young. Stop reading into it so much.

The translation may have been too literal.
"Il y a un siecle que je ne t'ai vu" means "I haven't seen you in ages".
(Ninth will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong. :D )
But maybe the original French was completely different.

Your right, Fienepien, but that was not the problem after all.
"Parfois, j'ai peine à croire que cela fait plus d'un demi-siecle que nous ne nous sommes pas vu.". Which means that it's not a century, but half a century.
If you're right, Grey, then it's a mistake in the translation.
