So in another thread, we talked about the worst Adventure character ever. It made me think...who is the best Adventure game character NOT including the main character?
In my opinion, i'd have to say Mosely from GK 1 and maybe Murray the Evil Skull. Who am I missing?

Glottis from Grim Fandango

Glottis from Grim Fandango
I'd agree, but most people find him annoying.

Oh, why hasn't Revolution made a game with him in the leading role yet.

Eh, I'd be surprised if that were the case.

On a related note, I find Murray annoying.

It became the topic of another post I saw where people were saying he should have his own game. A bunch of people said he was too annoying. Personally I like him.

GRIM FANDANGO had so many awesome characters. My personal favourite is Olivia Ofrenda. "I have a poem I made just for you. Pay attention because it's pretty short, here it goes: Chuuu-mmmmmm-p!"
Or Hector. Or Don Copal. Or Lupe. Or Lola. Or ... such a damn awesome game!

Murray in CMI. It was fun to see Murray again in EMI, but he didn't have the same charm, maybe because he lacked any facial expression whatsoever, and instead had that stupid spinning stool thing.
Besides that, the Flipper. It's really not that hard for me to think of this, actually, since Murray and the Flipper are numbers 1 and 2 on my top 10 characters list.

I'm going to have to go along with the popular opinion here and say Glottis and Murray.
Also, I think that Joey from Beneath a Steal Sky deserves a mention.

Noooooo! Joey was a PMSie lil' smartass. Soo annoying.

Doesn't he die? Or am I thinking of the other guy?
I do find Glottis annoying. He reminds me of SpongeBob's friend Patrick who, incidentally, also bugs me. :)
For best supporting character I'd have to say... err... uhh... I can't think of anyone at the moment. I'll get back to you on that. :D

I also found Glottis annoying. To the point where I had to turn the sound down when he was around. Mostly it was the voice actor that grated on me. Loved the rest of the cast though. Pitch perfect.
Gracie was okay but spotty over the series. However, I don't think Gabe would have been as effective a main character without her so she has to be considered in any thread as a Best Supporting Role.
My other was fave is Laverne from DOTT tho I don't know if the ensemble nature of the game would qualify her.

Man, I can't believe no one has mentioned Max yet. I also think Sam from Feeble Files was great.
Murray is the best though.

Nope, Murray is a nice guy in the "skin" of a skeleton, and that's cool, but Max is a psycho in the body of a cute rabbit, and that's soo much cooler....

Hmm... I can't really argue with that. I admit defeat.
I would have won too, if it wasn't for that pesky dog and those damn kids...

No, you wouldn't, there's no way anyone (not even the last violonist of the apocalypse) could get away with saying that Max is not the best supporting character ever. 8-)

It would have to be Grace from the Gabriel Knight series. She really should have her own game, and Gabriel could be the sidekick.
On another level, just to be perverted, how about a new Myst game, with Sirrus and Achenar as the lead characters.

Gracie was okay but spotty over the series.I agree. I didn't like her in The Beast Within at all. Much too bitchy... still sarcastic but without the playfullness. I didn't really like any of the acting in GK2 but Grace annoyed me the most because she was so unlike the character in the first game.

I couldn't, I have to admit, if I thought that Max was a supporting character. I think he and Sam share top billing, in the same way that DOTT was an ensemble cast. I think the game could just as easily have had you controlling Max, except it provided for more humor if you controlled the saner of the pair and had the complete psycho wandering around doing random stuff. (Watching Max playing with the automatic door in the Bigfoot club was more fun than the actual conversations in that room.)
Besides, for a "supporting character," Max sure does take part in a lot of conversations.
"I'm Sam, he's Max. We savagely protect the rights of innocents."
"Even cruelly twisted ones such as yourself. Selves. Whatever."
"We'd like to ride the Cone of Tragedy."
"That's right. We've lost our will to live."

I call him a supporting character because we don't control him, but that may be me misinterpreting the term "supporting character".

Best supporting character? Zork: Grand Inquisitor's lantern.
Although I'm tempted to say the Inquisitor himself as one of my favorite adventure game characters ever... :D

Well, I guess that is a good definition, so you can go by that if you want. I was more going by amount of screen time and involvement, which is why I didn't mention him in the first place.

But in The Beast Within, Grace had, shall we say, competition. Remember Gerde, who to most males would be hot and sexy was also present. Competition changes attitudes remarkably. Grace was also like this in Gabriel Knight III when she encountered Madeline.

Actually I think the best supporting actress and actor are Grace (from GK1) and Dungeon Master (from ZGI), respectively. But ditto to Grim Fandango having the best cast of characters. I couldn't even try to choose my favourite.

Well, at the end of the first part we ARE left thinking that Moue has died. Until Nico in BS2 explains it was all fabricated.

That would be captain Velasco if I'm not mistaken.
Grim Fandango is an excellent choice. If I had to pick one, that would be Glottis because he is the ideal sidekick. The Librarian in Discworld 1 made me laugh. (I believe it's a m.. an ape ;) )
