View Full Version : Where Do You Buy Your Games?

There should be a thread that links to great deals on games. Like....

http://www.chumbo.com/info.asp?s=699030111680&ptr=fg

Runaway: 11.99 shipped.

This way, everyone knows where to get them cheap.

Just an idea...

Shipping is $2.50-$3.50, don't remember exactly

But is that included in the $9? Because if not, then the total would be at least $11.50, and if the one you bought was used, then the one I posted is still the better deal.

It's too bad there wasn't a forum here to buy/sell/trade adventure games.

Amazon.com marketplace is similar to ebay, except you don't bid, you just buy. Right now they have a new copy of Runway for $8 on there. I mentioned it not just because of Runaway, but you can get lots of other games there too for good prices. I buy a lot of games, CDs, and DVDs used. Saves a lot of cash.

We don't have any place to buy used games.

Amazon itself or Amazon Marketplace is usually my first port of call. Then I try some lesser known online retailers and then it's eBay if I have no other way of getting the game.

I would personally avoid Play.com as I have had some pretty bad experiences with them - not delivering pre-ordered items, delivery the wrong items (twice!), poor customer service and support and total lack of internal communication. It got so bad I closed my account in the end.

Is amazon better than half.com?

timcclayton
11-10-2004, 07:38 AM
Never heard of half.com, but I just had a quick look and it seems to be along the lines of eBay (ie. we'll put the structure in place for you to trade, but if someone rips you off, you're on your own - that's why eBay is always a last resort for me).

On top of that, it is US-based so therefore no good for me anyway.

I am a fan of Amazon - I must have bought hundreds of things (new and used) and have never had a single problem). I will say though that their customer service is starting to approach eBay's in quality (ie. it's sh1t and becoming sh1tter by the day)

TigerShard

I would say half.com and Amazon.com Marketplace are similar. I tend to shop at Amazon.com Marketplace more though. I've had a few bad experiences on Half.com with buying an item and the person having already sold it elsewhere. The same thing can happen on amazon marketplace though...

timcclayton

It can, but in my experience it doesn't.

TigerShard

I have to disagree with your comment about Amazon.com's customer service. A few weeks ago I ordered a few items and chose super saver shipping. The same night, I ordered another item. I wanted to combine my two orders, but you are not allowed to combine super saver shipping orders. I changed my shipping method to standard, but it still gave me the same reason for not being able to combine them. I sent Amazon.com an email about it. Well, my items got shipped that night, so they couldn't combine them, but they did refund all of my shipping ($9), so I am happy.

Sharon, do you have any Goodwill stores or other thrift shops around?

I've found a bunch of used games (mostly older ones from the 90s and early 2000s) at these types of stores. They are often mixed in with the audio CDs but sometimes boxed, too.

I have seen games at the Salvation Army but the ones I've seen there have been more expensive than I think they should be. Could just be that the SA stores around here are overpriced. :)

Welcome to the forum, Kalle! *D

Check out www.play.com - I have never ordered from them (they don't ship to the US), but their prices seem pretty good and they have free shipping all over Europe (Finland included).

Play is great (and cheap) for games that are currently in stores. However, if you're looking for older games, your country's own eBay is your best bet.

timcclayton

While we are on the subject, "Return to Mysterious Island" is available to pre-order at www.gameplay.co.uk for £17.99 for those who are interested.

Also, I forgot to post earlier that CDAccess (www.cdaccess.com) have LOADS of classic adventure games - if you can't buy them new anywhere else then they are a good bet - the only problem is the postage costs outside the US, but they are not nearly as steep as some others (TAC etc...)

but we have www.huuto.net that's like eBay, and sometimes (very rarely these days though) one can find golden oldie adventure games from there.

gameplay.co.uk -- wait till januari 2005 and then pay £17.99 + £2.95 UK shipping = £20.94 (= $38.80)

interactcd.com -- order now and pay $19.95 + $10 international shipping = $29.95 (=£16.16)

When I ordered it, the date was 19th November, so screw you FinePain. :D

Anyway, you're SO last year:

dvdboxoffice.com -- order now and pay C$24.95 + $0 international shipping = C$24.95 (=£11.50)

I think Fienepien is grossly misunderstood. If you say "screw you" and make fun of her name, she doesn't interpret it in the cavalier way that you probably expected.
You have to keep in mind that the forum does not consist entirely of young males who like to make unpleasant jokes at each other's expense. It'll take a while to find a poster with Fienepien's wide knowledge and experience of adventure games.
But hey! If you're fine with that, then go ahead.

Oh, I SEE now. It's fine for her to jump and trample over other people's feelings, but when someone does it to her, she doesn't like it...

There are more than enough knowledgable people here - I don't think one less (particularly one with an attitude problem) is going to make a tad of difference.

But time will tell if this site slides into the ether without her ever-charming presence... :P

I would like to take this time to point out a quote from the AG FAQ (http://forums.adventuregamers.com/faq.php?):

Respect each other

People of widely varying nationalities, ages and educational levels visit this forum. Participants are expected to treat each other with dignity and respect. Passionate, even heated debate is welcome but messages which descend to personal insults, name-calling or other abuse will be deleted. Participants who routinely abuse other members will be warned. Failure to change behavior will result in loss of posting privileges.

Tim, please stop butchering Fienepien's name. Clearly it offended her and it's completely unnecessary.

Now, if anyone would like to get back on topic and mention some more places to buy old games, that'd be great. If not, let's let this thread fade into the ether.

*ducks and runs away to avoid falling pancakes*
