I hope there isn't another thread for this. What did you think of the game?

I just finished it and I have mixed feelings. The inventory system is simply brilliant! I don't remember any other adventure with such a huge inventory (this is the exact opposite of the myst series). I probably spent more time doing stuff in the inventory screen than exploring around. :)

The graphics were just fine too, even though there was a glitch in my main menu screen where vertical white lines would show up. No biggie though. The "cutscenes" were also full with a grid of white vertical and horizontal lines, but that actually made it look more artistic :) (anyone else had that?).

Bad points: I hate non-linear adventures to begin with but this one overdid it! Not all parts of it are essential to proceed apparently. I finished the game and I KNOW I have missed major parts of it. Unless that was all there was. Which I doubt. I have stuff in my inventory that I never used and that alone destroys the sense of completeness I was expecting by finishing the game. I will have to go back and figure the rest having seen the ending...:frown:

PS. This is my first post by the way :)

The bellows you mean?

Go to the beach where you started and you should find a seal there. That should get you started. Read below for more.

Use the knive on the seal to get its skin, and then use the skin on the bellows.

While I have not played the game, only the demo, I can suggest a possible reason for having numerous unused leftover inventory items. The demo shows that this game allows for multiple solutions to puzzles. For instance, to light a cooking fire, you had a choice of either using flint & steel (and one kind of kindling) or a magnifying lens (and a different kindling). This would indicate that, depending on the solution choices you made, you could easily have many unised items left over at the end of the game.

But that's just theory gleaned from having played the demo.

Question: Can someone give me an idea on game length before I plunk down my money?

Ok I'll continue my moaning with some specific parts of the game.

Near the end of the game, I entered the bottom submarine door first, before trying the one "upstairs". Then I tried the one upstairs, which leads to the same room as the bottom door!? WHAT THE? I guess it is all part of the "multi-solution" logic followed throughout the game...What happens if you enter the top door first? How do you get out? Anyone tried this?

It was a rather short game, but I do hope adventure developers copy the same type of inventory system.

I tried after reading you question ...

after you enter the top door, you can easily open the bottom door with one mouse click, you don't have to brake the code

I believe that they made this to give you oportunity to finish game easier, it took me almoust half hour to figure out solution for the bottom door, I managed to solve numerical part quickly but letter part was tricky

also I have question regarding game

What happened to Nemo's body ??? At end movie nothing showed, and in one part of game Nemo said that I must give his body peace

What do you mean?

In the game you bury his body on the beach inside a coffin. Just like he wanted. At the end movie it shows his "ghost" playing that church organ..thing.

I just finished it and I have mixed feelings.

I have mixed feelings too. I enjoyed it at first. Too short and too easy for the most part, although there was one puzzle that had me stumped. I liked the many ways you could combine inventory items, but in the end it got a bit tiresome.

And....

I HATE those stupid quizes!

I need a consensus here. How long did it take everyone that finished it. I saw the number 6 hrs come up?!? Crap, and I was disappointed with the length of Broken Sword 3. Still looking forward to playing the game but if it's that short then some of the wind has been taken out of my excitement sails.

I'm an average gamer, it took me 10-11 hours (inlcuding over one hour on the puzzle that had me stumped, I gave up and found the solution in a WT) and I tried several alternative ways to do things. A number of puzzles are optional, although there's no way of knowing that. So yes, you can breeze through it and it is a short game. Not much story either. Still, I liked it. The graphics are very good and the inventory system was fun. The game lives up to the demo, just don't expect much more than the demo promises.

I think that this was and will be one of the best AGs out this year. There are things about it that aren't especially realistic (have you SEEN how much this girl can carry?? woah..) but I love that the developer's made it open-ended enough to allow for multiple solutions to puzzles. That is very admirable, considering many developers simply have one way to do things and if you missed picking up that one item that was a tiny little hotspot, you're screwed. You could even say that Kheops offered TOO many ways to do things, but I wasn't disappointed in the least. For the simple fact that I finished the game with Inventory items leftover guarantees that I will play it again someday and try to find a different way to do things AND get a higher score.

The graphics were excellent, the voice acting was second-to-none. The interface was clean and elegant and the inventory was extremely well done. The flaws would be the story (to a degree.. I thought it was good, but yes, slightly contrived), the length, and the level of difficulty. It would be neat to see Kheops build off of this game and interface/engine by using it in another game.

All in all, I paid $20 and got a very enjoyable game out of it, one I will play again. The highest compliment I could pay it is that I was thinking about it in the morning while brushing my teeth, trying to solve one of the puzzles...

My 2 cents.

Oliver

edit: I think it took me about 10-12 hours to finish, at a reasonably leisurely pace.

That is very admirable, considering many developers simply have one way to do things and if you missed picking up that one item that was a tiny little hotspot, you're screwed.I really hope other developers take note of this. Adventure game designers _have to_ begin offering multiple solutions to their puzzles. There's nothing more annoying than finding a solution that is just as good as the "correct" solution, but doesn't work because the designers wanted you to do it their way instead.

There's a way to finish the game by using the organ instead of
taking the stupid quiz at the end..

I think they designed the game to be replayed to get more points, the same way some old DOS games had a point system to encourage you to replay and get the maximum points. Of course not everyone wants to replay the same game just to see if they can get more points.

It took me about 10 to 12 hours to finish the game.

It was a bit on the short side, but I loved the inventory and the graphics. I was also pleasantly surprised that there were multiple solutions to various problems.

All in all I had a good time playing and do not regret buying it.
