need help with GK1 mummies

i just got to the section of gabriel knight 1 where the zombie/mummy things are chasing me. i can't seem to by the zombie thing in the third room(the one blocking the doorway). i've tried about 50 times right now and it just won't work. i've tried to go around with no luck, and followed a walkthrough's hint to skip back the previous room then return so his back will be to you but that didn't work either. it seems like if i get close to the doorway, gabriel will stop walking and wait for the guy to come get him. if anyone has a save game file after that section i would be incredibly grateful.

I just tried it over and over again. I don't remember if I used the Turbo program that comes with the C to get past this point, or if adjusted the game speed to slow... or high. It could have been something like that. Mainly, what you need to do is to click, click, click, click, click, click... :crazy: And be quick with that clicking.

Don't have the savegame anymore, though.

The answer is simple, although I agree that point is quite frustrating. When you enter that room, just go back in the room before then go back again. The second time you enter the room the mummy will be facing backwards, so you just have to move diagonally right then left. Using this method I was able to pass him on the first try.

I don't know about clock speed probs, I played it on DosBox, but they should have nothing to do with the mummies. *I think*.

MDMaster is right. It's not the speed of clicking that's important. You have to be careful about where you click. Basically, the key is go out of the room and come back so that the mummy won't be facing you and then try to go around it. Do not try to run past him by clicking on the exit directly.

Using the in-game speed controls to slow the thing down can make your life a LOT easier.

In the room with the vine, I think you encounter 3 mummies and can't walk past them.

i appreciate the help but as i said in my post, i've already tried going back to the previous room and returning. even if i get past the thing gabriel will not go through the door he just stands and waits for the creature to take about 5 steps and kill him. if anyone knows a good hosting place i could try to upload a video of what i'm talking about. i also tried turning the speed down, but that seemed to slow me down and not the creature. i'm playing in dosbox right now if that makes a difference. :frusty:

Don't know if it makes a difference, but have you tried using different icons on the door? Like the 'use' icon (gears) instead of the hand or the walk?

ps What version of the game are you using? (From the Mysteries pack or standalone? I assume, if you're using DosBox, it's the DOS version?) I'd be willing to help with a save game but can only help if you're using the Mysteries Pack (saves are not compatible between versions of the game). I am out of town right now so I couldn't get it to you for a few days.

Hmm, have you been clicking twice (using the walk icon)? You need to click once to move Gabe to the right side of the room (aim for the middle of the right wall), then click on the exit. Don't click more than twice. Just click twice, once on the right side and then on the exit.

Slowing down the game also helps because that slows down the game in entirety and gives you more time to click on the right spot. Once again, what's important is not how fast you click but where you click.

It might take a few tries but if you follow the two-click strategy, you should be able to get through the room.

I finally made it!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY! i absolutely couldn't believe it after so many failed attempts. :D Thanks to everyone in the thread for being so helpful.

ps: in the end it was the two click method that got it(though it still took me a bunch of tries), earlier i was clicking like a madman.
