I just got hold of a copy of this game, but cannot get it to install.
Whether I place the disc in the drive, or try and run it through My Computer, it comes up with a message that he 32-bit setup launcher has experienced a problem and needs to close...
My PC is...
Athlon 2000+
512 Mb Ram
80 Gb HD
SB audigy card
GeForce 4 128Mb Graphics
DVD Rom drive
Windows XP
Anyone experienced a similar problem - what do I do... :frusty:

Hello!
I have the same problem.
I bought Atlantis 2 as a DVD last week and I have a brand new computer (laptop) with Windows XP.
I have been on a variety of forums to find a solutions - even on French ones - and the only thing I found out is that this is a compatibility problem with Windows XP. Also, apparently the earlier releases of Atlantis 2 had no problem so it seems to be with newer versions only (great!). I don't know if it is just a problem with the DVD (as opposed to CD Rom) version.
I found a patch but it's only for th CDRom versions and many users recommend NOT to install it anyway as it alters the graphics/animations.
FYI that patch is available on the (French) Dreamcatcher website and clearly indicates the game has a compatibility problem with Windows XP, NT, 2000.

For your information I bought my copy on amazon.co.uk, from a user called "bb4iga" ("Comments: - Brand New, Boxed and Sealed, DVD ROM VERSION Please make sure you have a DVD ROM DRIVE in your PC."). I am just mentioning this in case you ordered it from the same person/business - they might have a corrupt stock but I doubt it.
The back of my DVD (probably like yours) is saying the game is for Windows 95 and 98 but I imagine it is fine when you have a higher version like Windows XP.
On some forums (in French) people were saying to operate the game in another mode (by right clicking on the game properties and select "compatibility" and select "windows 95 ou 98" - but I didn't manage to do it).
Tell me if you found a solution - I was eager to play the game (just like you I imagine) and I am simply pissed off!

Since my previous message I tried the compatibility thing and got the game to play, then I got stuck with a new problem ("hard drive full") which is the second Atlantis 2 well-known bug!
When you install atlantis2.exe it tries installing it then crashes. Yet, it does create the Atlantis folder (go to Start/Programs/Atlantis 2) and there are 2 icons: "uninstall" and "play game" (or whatever it is in English). Just right click on the "play game" icon, go to "properties" and select the "compatibility" tab and then select "play game as in Windows 95".
That worked for me and it launched the game...
...You first see a dashboard and you have to select one of the beads "player 1" and that launches the animation. You see a guy walking in the snow... and after about 30 second, when the guy sees the Altantis ship, the animation stops and you see a big fat floppy (!!) and if you move your mouse over it is says that your hard drive is full... Which of course is a big joke!
I am now try to find a solution around that "hard drive full" problem...
Let me know if that works for you and if you find a solution to the second problem...

how to get this game to work.
1 set the compatibility mode to the following:
compatibility mode = Windows XP
Disable visual themes = true
640x480 display =false
256 colours = false
start the game
2 if you find that the video sequences have stoped working
save the game just after you start then exit the game.
change the compatibility back to mode windows 98/me
start the game again the game will work fully.
including saving and loading
