Allright lets take it from the top because I know a lot of old sugestions are going to be given for this problem. Amazingly enough I do not get the any of the standard errors when playing QFG4, (IE: error #xx when sliding down the hill at the begining of the game, or fighting the chernovi (spelling?)) My problem is this, the text boxes dissapear before I can read them. Now obviously I could continue clicking on an object untill I read the whole box but it makes conversation completely impossible. Now before anyone says Moslo or dos box please read what I have tried below before you respond.

1. I have tried all the patches that are available for the game. Including patches at:

http://sierra.happy-land.ca/
http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/7435/Goodies/Downloads.htm

2. I have tried using moslo with every argument from /1 to /100 while it does seem to vary the speed of the animations (character movement spell effects etc) it does not seem to reduce the length of time that text stays up to be read.

3. I have tried using turbo (same result at mo slo)

4. I have tried using dosbox ( I get much better sound fewer animation mix ups but still the text just blinks off the screen before I can read it) Cycles were set at 2000.

5. I have also randomly tried using no sound and different video options to no avail.

I have no idea why none of this is working. Somone anyone if you have this similar problem, and have a solution please let me know.

Are you playing the CD version? This happens when you play the CD version but the game can't find the CD. (Not only with this game - it happens with other Sierra talkies too. I've had the problem with KQ6 and Freddy Pharkas.)

If you have more than one CD drive, the easiest thing to do is stick the CD in D:. That's often the default on old games.

Or, look in the game directory for a file called Sierra.ini or Resource.win and open it with a text editor. Make sure the correct drive letter is specified for your CD. If it's not, change it to the correct drive letter and save the file.

Lemme know if either of those things works. If not I can install QfG4 and tell you exactly what to look for, but I'm a tad too lazy to do it now.

ps Is this the collection version or the standalone version?
