Piracy is the reason game developers are weary of making games for the PC.

I would like to give Verbry the benefit of the doubt. What exactly do you mean by "downloading"? Are you refering to privated software? If so, I suggest you take note of Adventure Gamers policy on piracy.

However, I am an optimist and I tend to believe you may mean something else? Could you explain.

If you are looking for a legitimate game to BUY, I will be more than glad to suggest a series of games that play similarly to both CSI games.

I think Stupid Invaders may be the game for you. You should see if you can snatch a copy for free at your local gamestore.
Just make sure you end up playing it. :)

Welcome to the forum, Verbry. :)

As you may have noticed, a lot of us around here have very strong feelings about software piracy. When you said you were downloading Missing Since January, it implies that you have an illegal copy, which is something Adventure Gamers can't support.

On the other hand, we should all remember that 1) people who are new to the genre don't always KNOW that piracy is frowned upon (c'mon, how many of us played copied adventure games when we were younger, just because piracy hadn't been widely publicized as bad yet? I know I did. The first adventure I ever played was a copy.) and 2) sometimes language barriers and the constraints of the Internet cause confusion about whether someone is actually using an illegal copy or not. A few weeks ago I posted looking for the Grim Fandago manual because my "copy" (by this, I meant my original version of the game) didn't come with one. I had to think carefully before I posted... and since I did know what the reactions would be to piracy, I worded my request very carefully so as to avoid confusion. Not everyone knows to do this.

Okay, stepping off soap box now. Verbry, I hope we haven't scared you off.

I'm not trying to start a discussion here, but piracy is frowned upon regardless of genre, and I would think everyone (especially if you're hooked up with an internet connection) should know this?

I don't think everyone "knows" that piracy is frowned upon. There are all sorts of reasons someone may not... the proliferation of things available for download being one of them. (If everyone knew it was wrong, they would have stopped using Napster and Kazaa for moral reasons and there would have been no need for lawsuits!)

It's not wrong of us to point out to someone why we think piracy is bad. But I do think it's wrong for us to assume that they know they're doing something wrong and attack them for it without even explaining why. ESPECIALLY if that person is a new member of this community. If you made your first post here and people reacted negatively for reasons you didn't really understand, would you have any desire to come back and post a second time? I wouldn't.

Just my $0.02.

Sadly, that's not the way it works. Some people (most people) who downloads knows that it's illegal, but they just don't give a damn. It's the same reason why people download music, they can get away with it, "everybody" does it, and they think it's ok because of that.
That doesn't mean they think it's legal.

I agree with you, however, that we should give verbry a chance.

Funny how no one even bothered to try to answer his question... Man, this person is downloading a game, why should I help him? For me, the more people playing AGs, the better, regardless on how they got their games (and I do buy them, myself).
I haven't played CSI, so I'm not sure, but I'd say you'd want to play one of the Police Quest games, or one of the Sherlock Holmes games. They're a bit old, though, but I'm pretty sure that no modern adventure games are like CSI.
You might want to wait for the next Sherlock Games (the Silver Earring, or something).

I know. ;)
I don't have any relevant information on this, so I won't even try to argue. Right now, I think that more poeple playing AGs means more people buying AGs, on the long term. But that's just a feeling I have.
Besides, I'm buying enough AGs for two people, so I can give absolution to a sinner (pirate) of my choice. ;)

I'm not saying piracy is okay. I'm saying that one we shouldn't jump to conclusions, and two it's better to educate someone as to *why* piracy is bad than to be accusatory and drive them away.

;) Try four years. Don't worry, we'll start recommending some games soon, but there's always the chance that they will be searched online to download. Until then we can't help but express dismay. This site does not like piracy, the adventure game companies are already struggling as it is. If you can't afford a game at the moment, why not wait for it to go on sale at least?

You were downloading the demo of Missing! Well then, my apologies for sharpening my axe for when you came back. :D See, we usually freak out here everytime someone talks about doing warez, so people can do if they want, we just don't wanna hear about.

Anyway, I was playing the demo (http://www.gamershell.com/download_6564.shtml) to that Sherlock Holmes game The Case Of The Silver Earring earlier (haven't finished it yet), and it seems like it would be up your alley: murdery mystery, investigation, forensics. So far so good, I'm having a fairly good time with it. It comes out this month.

Enjoy.

And welcome to the community. 8-)

Hi Verbry!

I haven't played the CSI games but I can vouch for the Law & Order games - I really enjoyed them. If you've ever seen the show you'll have an idea of what they're like - half investigation, half trial.

I'm glad you posted again even though everyone jumped to conclusions about you downloading a game.

after reading all the comments i concede piracy is not right especially in this type of game which has fallen far behind the shoot em ups/grand theft auto stuff.
to keep adventure games alive they should be bought, but it must be so tempting to download if you are short of cash, as a lot of kids are.

If you look past the puzzles and the fact that the humour is non-present, I'd say it's up there.

If you look past the puzzles and the fact that the humour is non-present, I'd say it's up there.

Look past the fact that you have navigate through five screens for each room, that there's virtually no story, a maze.. ON A SNAIL, one of the most bland characters ever to appear in video games and then we're on the right track.

Oh, and the puzzles? You'd have to walk past them to get anywhere near decent.
