Hello, this is my first post here, but I have been viewing these boards for a while now.
I wanted to make a thread about a game I recently purchased and completed called Nightlong. I know some of you know of it but not many talk about this game.
Nightlong is one of the better adventure games I have ever played. It's story is interesting, graphics gorgeous, and puzzles very well made. Nightlong reminds me a lot of Blade Runner in the area of settings and mood.
If you have not played this gem then please do. It is well worth it for all 3rd person point-and-click fans. No action or timer-based puzzles here nor death.
Please give this game a shot. It also reminds me a bit of The Longest Journey though the connection is hard to describe. It's worth the $15-20 you can pick it up for online.

Yes I played the demo for it and found it interesting. It did in fact replicate the atmosphere and the feel of Blade Runner. I almost thought that they used Blade Runner engine and graphics and just slapped on a different story. The demo did however give a few clues to a "conspiracy" kind of story and got me interested but that game is unavailable in Melbourne.

Indeed there is a conspiracy story throughout Nightlong. It has some twists and turns but nothing too shocking. It's a solid story but not top tier like TLJ and such. I would say above-average.
Puzzle wise it is near perfect IMO. So many puzzles throughout and ALL of which are logical. It reminds me of Broken Sword 1 in this regard. Since it's logical one may say it's on the easier side (see BS1) but even still I find Nightlong to have moderate difficulty.
Nightlong is also a solid length game and the voice-overs are well done. The main character I didn't like at first but later grew to like and this is a good sign.
And the setting will change half-way through the game to something not so Blade Runnerish and then later change back. The other setting is well crafted and interesting, though I wish more time was spent there.
You know of the graphics and sound by now, all solid, so I don't have to add much here.
There's nothing else I can add at this point. I will give one warning though:
There is a bug (only 1) which will cause the game to crash but it's only when you enter this one room and if you're using a certain OS. The developers have placed a save game on their website for people who experience this problem to download. It's small and installing it is automatic once executed. The save game will go to slot #5 and be after the person has passed the parts involving that one room. This means that you will miss a small portion of the intended games puzzles. Luckily though it isn't very much and very little happens story wise during this part.

I've been hearing a lot of reports about this bug, and quite frankly I'm a bit surprised about it. The last time I played the game, it was practically bug free for me. So I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones who didn't experience ithis problem.
Anyway, Nightlong is definitely a good game, and a must for anyone who likes Science-Fiction.

Yep, this bug affected me. Unfortunately I never got back into it after I hit the bug. I downloaded the save game, but other games came along and I kinda never bothered going back to it... Maybe I should.

You deffinently should as you are missing half the game +. The other world is a nice change of pace to visit and surely you are missing the story's twist which isn't too huge but nonetheless can mislead someone who never finished the game.
The bug is stated to affect Windows 98 and ME I believe but running the game on XP Pro I too experienced the bug. While a huge flaw developmental wise, it's not such a big deal gameplay wise. You only miss a small portion and any walkthrough can detail to you what exactly you missed.

I can't find this patch anywhere. Team 17's website refers me to Trecision's website and Trecision's website no longer exists. I'm using XP if that matters.

Actually the main developers of the game were those good italian guys at Trecision (Watchmaker, anyone?), Team 17 just codeveloped with them, which could explain why this is the only decent game Trecision has made since their foundation :D

Man, I remember finishing the Nightlong demo 5 times, I couldn't wait to play it. And I wasn't dissapointed. It was one of the first adventure games I played and it made me want to play more. I loved the dark atmosphere, the bald hero, the mystery, the puzzles (combine rat with skate, anyone?).
The game got mixed reviews, but it's definately a game I'd reccomend. It's in my top 10.

Well it used to only happen with one OS (Windows ME). Then Windows XP came out and it seems to happen with XP too.

I've played the demo of this game, and it really drew my attention. I never bought the full game either, but it remained in my brain as one of those "adventures you will always remember". It reminded me of Broken Sword alot, even though the game has the science fiction genre combined with adventure. I will try to find it.

Nightlong is an excellent game and a permanent Top 10 for me. Could also be the most underrated adventure title out there. I have played it maybe 5/6 times over the years and on different systems and never experienced the bug in question, so I suppose it can't be that widespread.
It is without doubt a game that all adventure gamers should try to get hold of, as you will not likely be disappointed...

Yep, it's a pretty good game. Pretty straightforward and took only a couple of days to complete but as a storytelling piece, a wonderful creation. Never made me re-play it though...

well my tech knowledge would fill a teaspoon so you have lost me. I have the patch just not on this PC :(
*D found something
TAC has a saved game for after the Sphinx room - which is where the game bug occurs.
Here's that link

For anyone else who might have this problem ...
You can either use the save game "patch" or, I found that if you set compatibility to WIN95 for the ZOO section only, the game will work but DO NOT save your game in the SPHINX room. This appears to be a workaround.
